Has anyone noticed that KITT does not have a rearview mirror.

One would think that with all of that high tech stuff they would at least give him something as simple as a rearview mirror. But all that high tech stuff is the probably the reason he don't need one.

My guess would be that Kitt has at least a few sensors pointed behind him.

plus out of the 2 tv's (or 1, depends on seasons), they could be used as rear views simply with a rear mounted camera. thats how motorhomes see in the back ya know.

kitt dont, michael does. im sure that if a rear view mirror was a major security problem back then and had to be put in, the camera/tv option wouldve been used.

Well to answer your this topic as to the best of my knowledge, kitt never ever had the center rearview mirror ,if anybody was paying attention in knight of the pheonix in most closeups the first season overhead was much to large to have a mirror to work with and only the stunt cars had the rearview mirrors, but to be brutally honest the center rearview actually serves as a handicap for when driving atleast for me it is more like a blind spot and serves me no real purpose,so one day I simply tossed it out and now I got more visability and fewer less distractions and it gives my kitt a more authentic "look" as apose to a basic trans am "look" but then again who really wants to have a car that looks the same on every block?...and I know first hand ,I use to live in a neighborhood and there was 9 of us that had either a firebird or trans am of some sort and even a couple of 77'-81' bandit style trans ams!...but then again I live in hotrod central!
but really the rearview mirror just gets in my way!
"Really?....some people are simply just too much!"

You see in many ep. openers. Like when you first see the guys. (KITT/MK) KITT has like his wheels my hit driving up on the screens like video, those must be like the minor for MK.

I figured other than the large overhead consule mentioned earlier, a rear view might show the camera some of the behind the scenes stuff happening in the back seat or behind the car that the audience is not meant to see.
KITT project is on again!

I can just see Michael grabbing for the mirror after every turbo jump...as it falls off from the impact.

This is a small scan, but this ad for Goliath has a drawing of KITT with a HUGE rear-view mirror; it takes up half the windshield to show two on-coming trucks crushing a car between them. Of course, that scene isn't in the episode.

At least, they drew up a really great looking dash.
Wouldn't it be a kick in the pants if some schematic showed that KITT had a rear view mirror...that popped out at the most opportune times?

Well KITT simply doesn't need a rearview mirror. You're not required to have one by the DMV anyway (as long as you have driver side mirrors). And as mentioned earlier, Michael could easily get an image from behind him with the TV monitor, and have KITT inhance the image if need be. KITT is an unconventional car, so its only natural he has unconventional abilities.

Just like Jup said, it probably fell off and Bonnie just got tired of sticking the darn thing back on.
I know I end up putting mine back on at least 3 times a year.

maybe there was not enough space for the mirror because of the overhead console !?!?
or it was just not in!

I remember the episode where KITT almost pleads Michael for many seconds to look at the monitor to see a graphic, where the simple line, "Michael. Road narrows ahead." would have done the job during an action sequence.
Wouldn't surprise me if KITT forced Michael to look at that monitor for a rear view point, as well. (Even if it's off camera.)
