Just a thought...

Post by Army_F_Body » Fri Feb 22, 2008 5:57 pm

It occurs to me that Ford supplying the new car may actually make more sense than a GM. This may very well become flame-bait so fell free to lock it if need be, I don't mean to stir the flames, just want some thoughts.

Looking through the last 25 years of KR I noticed out of roughly 12 cars (KITT, KARR, 7 TKR vehicles, KR 2010 car, KIFT, and KI3K), 7 were Fords (KI3K, 4 TKR vehicles, KA, and the 2010 car was an early 70s Mach 1), 1 a Ferrari (KRO), and 1 a Dodge (KIFT). I know the most well known was a GM and most of the other cars are out of continuity, but it seems that Ford has more of a relationship with KR than GM.

I'm not the biggest Ford fan out there, and to me TKR was a blow at first, but I don't really remember the fans being in an uproar over that choice. In fact I thought it was cute that it took 4 Fords (and a Power Ranger bike) to do the job of one Pontiac, but I digress...

I'm actually surprised no one said anything about this sooner....I had been thinking about it but wasn't sure whether or not to make a topic on it. It does seem that Ford has kept tabs on the KR related projects...

They really (seem to) want to support the series where as GM has shunned it since KR2000.

Actually GM shunned it before then, remember when they said not to call KITT a "Trans Am" in the original series? I do agree with you about the Fords though in that it seems they were most used. Now they are the Star Car. I personally like Fords and am very happy with the choice of the Mustang (a favorite of mine). In my past I have had two Ford product vehicles that I drove (I didn't own, but I drove) that were dear to me due to the fact they were the ones I learned to drive on: Ford Escort (Driving School) and my dad's '79 Mercury Zephyr (Mercury is a branch of Ford Motor Co.) I loved Pontiac Trans Ams since the Smokey and the Bandit '77 T/A. And then when I got my 6000 I really love that car too (still saving though for a replacement and hoping it holds out until then). So I been a Pontiac fan for awhile too.

I think Ford is a good choice now days. I admit I have recently been kinda disappointed in GM's offerings the past several years.

Hey, Fuzzie. So Dryden isn't hanging in too well? Sorry to hear if that is so.

Yeah, it's hard to be a GM diehard when the most of the last, great products they put out are almost 20 years old. I honestly think Ford should be cheered on for picking up the flag that GM threw away so long ago. Firebird and GTO are definitely dead due to the latest MPG mandates and the Covette and Camaro will continue on because they test better with the baby-boomer yuppie crowd (who prefer the look to the power so expect a lot of V6 options on the new Camaro and a maybe a token V8 model).

If Ford/Shelby want to continue producing rwd V8 powerhouses while Chevy is honestly considering a hybrid Camaro (I am not making this up), more power to them.

See your PM. But yeah, Dryden's succoming to car cancer and a fast rate now. Time to say goodbye is drawing near. He's holding in there for me though until I can get another car. I just haven't been driving him much lately.

I think that GM could have brought back the firebird. I mean there was a Firebird in the 80s with an iron duke! It was a base model. And the SE with the V6 was it? I mean if they really wanted to, they could do it. Problem is, how to market a 4 cyl with a hot body style? :?
