My worst day.....

I don't post often, but I had to vent to people that may understand. I have a 91 black firebird. It's my baby! I have black out's on the back and everone tells me it looks like Kitt. I have 2 12" subwoofers in the back, an amp and a nice CD player. While I was in School today (At a hospital!) someone broke in my car and stole the CD player and my cash. They also scratched some of the interior getting it out and basically just ripped the lid off the console. Hospital security said there was nothing they could do because the cameras weren't working and the police didn't even show up for 2.5 hrs. Alright.....I'm through complaining, thanks.

I make a point to NEVER leave my Trans Am any place where something like that could happen. Of course, there was a time when I didn't have a choice.

A friend of mine had an 82 Trans Am. She went to see a movie and when she came out, she found that someone had pryed her t-top open and stolen some stuff.

There's a bunch of immoral morans out there.

I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune. Please know that you're not the only one victim of this type of senseless act. I've been there....more times than I care to remember...

Chin up man, you'll her fixed up in no time. Why? Because I'm sure you love your Trans am. Usually these acts are random and I would highy suggest throwing your factory cassette deck in for the time being to minimize your risk of a repeat incident.

Over time, re-upgrade your sound system and 'alarm' your car. Alarms aren't very effective overall, but it's the least you could do.

I don't know what I'd do if it was damaged in some way, or even worse, stolen...

Thank you all for listening to my rants. I've fixed it back somewhat, the console is fixed and I have a new radio in there. I'm going to try to find some kind of alarm for it.

He had one of the first models to come out and "upgraded" over the years, his last one was a good beast he had it doing the "ton" once in the days before plod had roadside cameras

Ford produced a limited run out model of 1,038 of these when production ended in December 1986.

In standard form they put out about 160bhp, but the one I have has a turbo, which boosts the power to 200bhp.

i too am glad you got it fixed. i wonder if a big violent dog locked in your car whenever your not in it is illegal of course youd have to park somewhere really cool but no one would dare steal the car.

on a more serious note a friend with a shotgun normally works no seriously a good imobiliser and alarm is a good bet. with the price of biometrics stuff coming down if you really want to protect your car and stuff maybe an alarm that can only be turned off with the right thumb print. you could get an insurance company guy to fit it then do the change to the biometrics hardware yourself. or maybe a swipe card sort of sytem or even a hidden keypad with a number you have to put in. this would serve two perposes you could have a means of turning the alarm off plus if you have a kitt conversion you can use the keypad in the console or perhaps use the overhead console and remembering the code. although this is a bit hi tech and if you havent got the time you may just want to get a really loud alarm and get an insurance approved guy (or girl) to fit it

Never had it hapen to any of my KITT replicas (yet, touch wood) BUt i had a souped up Vauxhall Calibra with full body kit veilside shogun spoiler etc and after going to the flicks to see Star Wars episode 3, i came back and some one had nicked my Side Skirts. I mean why???? they left the front and back parts of the kit and didn't even touch the spoiler which was worth considerably more and could have been ripped off the car with ease.

You really do get some unscrupulous morons who think it is there RIGHT to take what you have worked hard for. B*****Ds.

As for the Capri.......nice car. there's a Ford Capri club that goes to some of the same car shows we do and they have some nice examples. Yours looks really clean though

Sorry to hear about the car and glad you're getting it fixed. Before I moved where I am now, I had my hubcaps stolen, and before that someone put a razor blade against the tire blade-side up pointing in the treads. I discovered it luckily but I have steel belted radials so it wouldn't have done anything. It happened after I complained to the manager there about a neighbor's loud music. The manager got mad at me for saying something about the music, even.

Another time I went in the grocery store one night after dark and I came out not noticing anything and then started up the car and ran over a glass bottle. Thankfully never got a flat. Sometimes ricer boyz like to put bottles and stuff in front of car tires for cars to run over to mess with people, if they see a 'competitor' looking thing or something they don't like, I guess. My car is black with white racing stripes, and a Sedan (American made!) So I guess they figured they'd mess with me. Luckily nothing happened to the tires though.

When I had a pickup truck, I was working and in broad daylight when I was inside at work, someone ripped off the side moulding part way and took the el-cheapo radio antenna! Why I don't even know. Stupid.

And I can't count how many times I put a cute smiley or once I had a green alien head on the top of my car's antenna to find it gone a few days later.

Whenever someone messes with my car, it's like they are messing with me personally. I feel quite violated. So I know how you must feel. And I really care for the car I have now. I was a mess when I found the razor blades. When the hubcaps went though, I had expected them to get stolen sooner, and they were starting to peel (fake chrome) so I was going to toss them anyway. Oh well. So I wasn't as upset about it as someone trying to make me pop a tire and get into an accident (which woudn't have happened anyway but like they say, it's the thought that counts).

I agree a good alarm is essential. I don't disclose Dryden's security (he's my Pontiac 6000 ) One thing no matter what kind of alarm or system you get, never tell anyone. This kinda provides more security in a way. At least I think so.

Thanks Peter! It doesn't come out very often and I try to keep her as clean as possible. Mainly to our local club shows at the moment.

BTW - I'm not really 83 - I changed my DOB in my profile AGES ago for fun and completely forgot all about it.

Though some mornings I do feel that old...

Sorry to hear about that. I can imagine how aggravating something like that can be. It doesn't sound like a coincidence to me that some theif just happened to break into a car one day and the cameras happen to not work. It may be someone that actually works at the hospital, you never know.

I now drive an '06 Eclipse and I'm especially careful with it, but you can only take it so far. Tinted windows definitely help so that no prying eyes can look into your car, though the darker the tints the more risk you have being pulled over, obviously.

Other things I do are to park far away from conjested areas in parking lots, especially near bars where people are more likely to stumble onto your car or bump into it. The other week I was at a club and parked pretty far from the entrance but some wiseass put a piece of cheese and a piece of candy on my windshield. There weren't any permanent scratches or anything, so I was able to laugh that one off, fortunately. It is kind of funny when you think about it.

Also, to try and help it from being scratched or dented (as it's a black car and scratches are more visible), whenever possible I park in a corner to help cut down the chances of someone swinging their door into my car. As I said earlier, you can only be so careful, though. There's already a very small scratch on the edge of my rear-view mirror, so now I'm sure to fold my mirrors in. I realize not all of those options are possible especially for Trans Ams or K.I.T.T. replicas, but a few simple things like that may help some of you.

I'm sorry to hear that and i totally feel your pain.

I've got a 92, Firebird, T-tops, and door locks that don't work. I used to leave my door unlocked and cover the red part of the lock slide with electircal tape, and that worked. until one time i feel asleep at my girlfriends house then went outside in the morning and noticed the door was slightly ajar. Somebody broke in. after that I left the t-top unlocked, and I honestly never had a problem, even after moving to a bad neighborhood nobody messed with it (though once the cops came and accused me of stealing it.) I love my car, It's a joy to drive and looks awsome just sitting there. If anything ever happend to it I cry like somebody died (cuz I just about re-built that car). Any way The upshot of the whole thing is I moved agian and was going back to school and ended up buying locks and installing them. They were only $20.

That sucks man I hope that you find thse suckers...Handle your business.
