New here, with KITT-inspired ZX2!

Hi! I just joined the board after checking it out for a while. Ever since I first saw Knight Rider back in college, I've been facinated with the KITT interior. My current car is a 2002 Ford Escort ZX2, and I have re-done the interior with inspirations from KITT. You can check it out at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/390119

Obviously, it's not a true replica -- it's not a Trans Am -- but I think you'll be able to see the influence. One thing not in these pictures is a scanner that I put in the front. I got a JC Whitney scanner, cut into the front hollow plastic bumper and mounted it there, and put smoked plexiglas over it. I hope to have pictures soon.

And, to address a topic I have seen here before, to get the jet-turbine sound that KITT makes, I recorded a similar sound on an endless loop tape, which is hooked to a small amp and outside speaker under the car. Anytime I want the jet sound, I just throw a couple switches on my overhead control panel. Of course, being such a simple system, the pitch doesn't rise and fall with speed. :D
I try to put a little KITT in any car I own!

Nice setup i am impressed at how you did that. Looks nice so most is for show but what actually works.

Thanks for checking it out! And most of the switches and displays do work! The digital-style dash is not really functional (it's an overlay that allows me to see the analog needles pointing to the LED digital numbers), but there is a functioning digital speedometer in the overhead control panel. And the other displays, such as the G-meters, temperature readout, and voltmeter all work.

The Commodore 64 computer, which is hooked up to the screen above the rear-view mirror, is also functional. It can display vehicle speed, acceleration, performance data, and even simple tracking functions. It is hooked up to a working 5 1/4" drive that is mounted between the two front seats (not visible in the photos). I wrote the programs using BASIC, and I load them from the disk when I want to run them. On the Cardomain site, page 4 gives a detailed description on what the displays and buttons do.

You got yourself one heck of a cool car there! I want to computerize my car more as well.
