Exactly. In my opinion, when it comes to shows like this, the show doesn't end because the cameras stopped rolling. But more like the considered viewers that take witness to that show's world have turned away and so the filming stops. But that world continues to live on. Just as if Michael has been fighting crime in far more cases then there have been episodes. But, such cases were far less interesting to be filmed. And thus, the crime fighting duo kept on going for years past 'Poo Poo Knight', until Michael retired and Kitt...was parted out. (As both TKR & KR 2000 said.)

After all, it's not like in Blake's Seven, where they quite literally put everyone into one room for a show down...and the 'law won' by only taking one prisoner. And, even then, the fans came back to continue that world after the seven was reduced to just one.
