Umm...

Im a pure film buff, I love film and the technology to make films.

Very fine line in general, the whole 3d element, it worked for Cameron as that was the tool he needed to tell his story the way he wanted to tell it.

Then when you have something that is quite revolutionary everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Would 3d serve Knight Rider?.

There are a few film makers that have decided not to just jump on the bandwagon, Jon Favreau announced when he was doing Cowboys & Aliens that he wasnt doing it in 3d, the crowd gave such a cheer.

Chris Nolan has decided not to shoot his final Batman film The Dark Knight Rises in 3d either, he has opted for the full imax package, he shot several key scenes of The Dark Knight in imax and loved the format. So he is shooting the entire final Batman film with imax.

I personally liked the 3d element for Avatar, but I do however feel that the format shouldnt be exhausted for everything because it's there.

If there is a real reason to use it for a film or documentry or tv series etc, then use it, thats what it's there for, but to just use it to have it I dont agree with it.

They did a last minute conversion with Clash Of The Titans to cash in on it and it was awful.

Knight & Day was quite bold in stating it's 2d film of the summer affair considering everyone was 3d. I admired that about Knight & Day and the film didnt need it anyway.

I like the imax treatment myself so I would love to see Knight Rider in imax. Depends if they have the budget for any of this.

Just my two cents anyway.

I think until the script is locked and the sequences all planned out, its difficult to see what format to go.

I know 3d is the new thing, everyone is milking it, but when you look at films such as The Expendables, The A-Team, Knight & Day, Salt, Predators, Inception etc, they werent in 3d.

Ulitmately you have to look at what benifit would the 3d format bring to Knight Rider?.

What would the Imax bring to Knight Rider?.

These will be legitimate questions that will be asked when the time comes to start filming.

It will be very interesting to see what format they do go for. :kitt:

Using IMAX cameras would be a huge statement of intent on the part of a future director. The vast majority of 3D movies on the other hand are post production conversions that have been designed to cash in on the post Avatar world. Because of this, I really don't want 3D technology (pre or post production) to get anywhere near a Knight Rider movie. :good:

Matt
Welcome aboard the Knight 2000.

Thank you. What's all this, it looks like Darth Vader's bathroom?

Yep totally agree.
Im also a big fan of Zack Synder, he made 300, Watchmen, his new movie Suckerpunch and he has been confirmed to direct the new Superman film. His style of film making would look pretty slick for Knight Rider.

The only format Im against is the use of 3d if there isnt a need for it. If the film benifits from 3d then thats totally cool, but I'd hate to see them just jump on the bandwagon and use a 3d conversion just for the sake of it.

Imax has always been my perfered option, I highlighted what the studio and the people involved will ask when it comes to the cost side, as in what will Knight Rider benifit from either format.

Either one will affect the budget of the film.

Zack Synder's style of film making appeals to me, Watchmen next to The Dark Knight, Inception and The Last Samurai are among the most beautifully shot films, be cool to have Knight Rider in that textured visual style.

Watched SALT today for the first time on Blu-ray and I have to say what an excellent film, the film itself I really enjoyed, but on a technical saide, the film was crisp, very clear, sounded great, all the visual textures were razor sharpe, would a 3d conversion make this film better?. Nope, no need for it.

If you already have a great film in the can, 3d isnt going to do much more, Imax, I 'd put more stock into so yes thats what I'd choose everytime.

For something as big an event as Avatar or say the newly released Tron Legacy then thats what 3d is for, that I can get behind, given the sheer scale of both films and the nature of the visual aspects, the 3d if done right will enhance, but an ordinary film, na I cant get behind that.

Going to see Tron tomorrow infact, been looking forward to that one for sometime.
