MKVFX a contender for VFX Emmy - for Knight Rider
Hey guys, long time no post. Just caught an article in Variety that discusses my companies work on Knight Rider as a strong contender for Emmy Consideration. We did apply for the Emmy's, specifically citing our work on the KITT vs KARR sequence in Episode 112. Help us spread the word if you can, any...

MKVFX KR Wallpaper
Hey dudes, During that online chat thingy we did for 112 some people asked if we could make some wallpapers available. So I pulled some choice stills from the raw KITT vs KARR battle and one shot of KITT going down a tunnel that we made and cropped them into 1600x1000 rez images. Please, please don'...

Re: Sorry to bring bad news
I cannot speculate on the future of KR, because I simply do not know. However, I can tell you this, from my experience on TV shows both past and present, and as someone who worked on a show during the writer's strike last year. Right now, both post production and visual effects are still alive and k...

Re: CG Explosions in Knight Rider 2008
Some l33t cr3w pwnage going on here, eh. Well to answer that thing about the 3D reflections, et cetera. Let me start off by reiterating that I am a 2D guy. What does that mean? Means I am in NO WAY a CGI expert. We have other people here that do that that are much more informed and can probably give...

Re: CG Explosions in Knight Rider 2008
What's cheaper? Hiring someone like the late Peter Diamond who has been working on miniatures/special effects for years or hiring a fresh out of UCLA undergrad with a computer degree who spent his free time in between classes playing World of Warcraft? Have you seen the vids posted of the FX depart...

Re: VFX Storyboards for A Hard Day's Knight
To be clear, I do these boards AFTER they have shot an episode and edited the cut. This is the bridge process from post production to VFX. Story boarding / previz for the show is a completely different beast. We also do our fare share of that. So these boards come from me watching the show, which is...

Re: VFX Storyboards for A Hard Day's Knight
Sometimes I trace over really low quality stills provided by the post production department, sometimes I draw from memory. You can see examples of both here. For the HUD, I created a series of brushes in photoshop, brushes like reticules, chat windows, digital noise, even KITTs orb is a brush. I reu...

VFX Storyboards for A Hard Day's Knight
As promised a while back... here are some storyboards I drew for "A Hard Day's Knight" for the in house VFX 2D team. Basically, I draw a board for each shot we do in 2D for every episode. The complexity of the drawing varies based on the complexity of the shot. Some are as simple as words ...

Hey guys, We here at Master Key VFX (The In-House Team for Knight Rider) just came across a rather upsetting article in VFX World Magazine that was published right near the premiere of 101. At the time of this article, Master Key had already assumed full creative control of Knight Rider. While some ...

Re: HUD screen grabs discussion
To a certain extent, the HUD dials are a fictional creation (by me and my team), but we have based everything in reality. A few of them are: krSpeedometer - standard from 0-100 then it goes into hyperdrive x1 x2 x3 x4, outfitted with MPH and KPH krTachometer - you get it rVelocity - rotational veloc...

If you watch Justin's interview while he's in KITT on a greenscreen stage on youtube, I'm the dork in the orange shirt who keeps coming up to KITT. I'm putting motion trackers on his windshield.

Re: HD Screen Caps Dicussion
Heh. I guess you could say that is an older OS of the HUD. Since KITT is an intelligent computer, constantly learning and being upgraded, you guys can keep a look out for lots of revisions in the future. Also, take a close look at KITTs "eye" in the first episode. I think there will be som...

Re: The "Parking Lot Transform" REVISITED - From the KR VFX Team
To get 3D footage into a 2D shot, like what you are seeing, one employs the use of 3D tracking software like "PF Track" or "Boujou" or the cheaper, but very effective "SynthEyes." These are specialty programs specifically designed to look for points in your 2D footage a...

Re: The "Parking Lot Transform" - From the KR VFX Team
so are you the guy who did the shot? I shot the video with my camera. Our 3D lead did the transform CGI. I did a lot of the 3D tracking. One of my 2D artists and I did the compositing (marrying the 3D and 2D elements), then I did the temp sound. Thus I would say it was a team effort from Knight Rid...

Yo people. HUD designer guy here (actually, leader of talented HUD design team, it's not just me anymore!). I got permission from above to share the transform that you guys saw on the Olympics commercial and elaborate a bit on it. I was amazed at how close a lot of you got. First off, this was a tes...
