New Knight Rider Week In Review

| | Comments (13)
So alot has happened since NBC's announcement last week. We did our best to cover it live in our forums - but here is the summary for you! We'll post tomorrow with more line by line details about each of these articles and what we know about the tv movie as a whole so far.

Coverage of the NBC press event:

On Hasselhoff's involvement (from OK Magazine):

Executive producer David Bartis told OK! that Hasselhoff’s participation was essential. “The audience wants to see that... He’s such a part of the legacy of the show,” Bartis explained to OK! “He loves Knight Rider. I think it’s something that’s really important to him — and that it’s done the right way.” New star Justin revealed to OK! that he’s a fan of the original and that working with David was “cool. I walked on set and he comes on. I’m like, ‘Wow. It’s not a dream!’ ” Justin even pointed out that he and David share similar backgrounds: “We both started on soaps and we both left them about the same time.” Another of the stars, Deanna Russo, said she was just as thrilled to work with Hasselhoff, 55. “I just kept having to laugh to myself and think, oh, my goodness, this is the man who was such a hero to me when I was a little girl,” she said.
From the cast (source CommingSoon):

This "Knight Rider" is a sequel to the original series, which Justin says is definitely a plus for the storyline. "Being a fan of the show, I was very excited about; I didn't want them to mess with [it] – you don't mess with 'the original' anything, it's never really as good. I love the fact that it just continues the story, and there's a huge gap, so within this show, we can go backwards, forwards. We can do anything because there are huge gaps in there to fill in."

Its giving me a headache trying to make sense of basically using barricade from transformers as kitt! what are nbc thinking, unless ford are having problems selling their aging mustang retro mobile, and need one (or two, counting transformers) possible franchises to sell existing stocks! the original kitt is iconic (he looked sleek and somewhat futuristic). I can't see this as a matsushiro rc model anytime soon. As a longtime 'rider fan and child of the 80's there is only one kitt (or karr)...the trans am

I think that everybody should quit to put this show in the ground before they even seen it i am a huge fan of the old series. But this is'nt a remake but a follow up series and i think everybody should wining at least until they see the show.

Point taken, Dark Knight, I understand what you mean. It's just that the feeling of the new car being KITT isn't strong. I'll be definitely tuning in for the series with an open mind though. Admittedly, the mustang does look badass but I think the "attack" mode is a mistake. I wasn't a fan of the original KITT's SuperPursuit mode either. It looked a bit tacked on for my liking, and the new mode does too. Maybe I'm a picky purist!!!! LONG LIVE THE RIDER!!!! I wonder what the big screen movie is gonna be like when they get it sorted?

I might be a little bias....
(reference to my post in "NBC Officially announces new Knight Rider).

....but if Michael Knight is a man of mystery and money is no object but the car has to be American made shouldn't this have been the choice?

The least they should have done was put some gull wing doors on the Shelby.

I think Dark Knight nailed it. It's a follow up not a remake. Maybe the plot invokes the theory that KITT needs to be a little more inconspicuous. In that case the Shelby Mustang would be a great choice. And maybe spark a little more interest in an American made car. That would not be a bad thing especially if the other American automakers follow suit. Maybe it's time for MK to have a garage full of KITT's. One thing I have to see is the "shape shifting" concept. I hope the CGI is not too hokey. Knowhatimean?

Good call JH!

That car would have DEFINITELY been a better choice! Looks a bit like a Koenigsegg...like the concept pix released online some time ago.

That could be KITT!

(Movie version perhaps????)

I'm with you on the "shape shifting" issue though...I wanna see that in action. Please don't let them screw that up and make it like the overblown VIPER!

yea that shelby is definatly a badass car and would make a kick ass kitt but the real world emerges when you figure that they will be destroying cars left and right every time they jump them and other stunts and they want to do that a cheep as posable and whats better then v 6 mustangs for afordablity when your going to wreck em.

thiis is acool site i to hated the news when i heard mustang but thats gms problem. all i could say is david hoffs appearance will save the show, a knight has his horse therefore a mustang in that regard makes sense?

I am a huge fan but the car looks ordinary, even if that is part of the story line! The 82 firebird even today still has a cool look more so then this car. I am glad they are at least giving the hoff a place in this since he is the real Knight Rider, I will watch and hope but I really think they are going to screw it up they should have just made the movie and waited on the show but I am at least happy they have not tried to remake The A-team as a show before the movie (if they do that I will drive my ass to burbank in the A-team van which I own and rally up every fan to boycott NBC there has to be some respect for TV history and for the fans!!!!

Good to see The Hoff back in the tv movie. That mustang? I'll have to wait and see... Mr David Darkstone, you OWN an A TEAM Van!! oh man! RESPECT 2 U! I'm definitely with you to boycott NBC if they disrespect The A Team!!

Please Glen A Larson,
Give The Hoff a big part in your forthcoming Knight Rider Movie!!!

God, I love action tv shows from the 80's!

2008 or 2009 CAMARO as KITT nuff said. Not the Mustang. This is probably the last chance to have some reincarnation of KR back on TV. So I am hoping it does get made into a series. Plus being a continuation we may see the Transam back fighting alongside the Shelby!!!

The show was so-so. Not exactly something I’d want my kids to watch as I watched the original when I was a kid. Too many controverial social issues in the script. Profanity, lewdness. homosexuality etc. Why not just stick with the core plot and leave out societal woes. I won't watch anymore of the series. This was ruined just like the new bionic woman was totally trashed. the fun is gone or shall I say the thrill is gone for good.

I saw the pilot and thought that it held just enough of the old story to make it a passable continuation. The used "The Hoff" just enough at the end and the car's technology is more believable in the sense that nanotechnology wasn't even used in sci-fi movies back in the 80's. The mustang used in the series really does remind me of Barricade from Transformers and the use of the show as a long-running commercial for Ford really killed the entertainment value. Overall, very predictable plot although the acting was decent. Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT was actually a good choice, he was very remeniscent in his cadence and tonality of the original voice of the 80's show. I'll be interested to see what future storylines will be used and how much they go back to the original series.

The car was good but the holes in the storyline! what happened to the original KITT? Given Michael Knight was the the next one down to Devon how comes the mad scientist has access to Wilton Knights foundation and money? What was so important Michael had to leave his family? Why was there no continuation between the original AI
and KITT now? Why was there no interaction between Michael and KITT? If they are going to make this series then Michael has to pop up every
now and then to fill these holes and for gods sake GIVE KITT TURBO BOOST!
