NBC during Sunday Night Football tonight, aired a 15 second preview for the new Knight Rider TV movie. It featured a sneak peak at the new KITT, which we had shown here before. More excitingly it also was the first time we heard the voice of KITT, as done by Will Arnett.

Am I the only person who think the Mustang isn't a bad idea? Don't get me wrong, I loved the Firebird, but it's a rougher tougher world and needs a KITT with a bit less style and a bit more muscle and there's no muscle car out there with more than the Mustang. Except maybe the Charger ;-)
As for not watching just because it's a Ford... that's fine, I guess you're entitled to an opinion. Think I'll wait and see before making the judgement.

Also, note that Glen Larson, the producer of the 80s show, is NOT involved in this new one. He is doing a MOVIE THEATER movie to come out in 2010, and they have NOT chosen the car for that yet. Glen Larson promises his car will look a lot more like what fans of the 80s show would expect.

I thiught i saw a cobra on the back (on other pictures also on the side), so i guess it's a Shelby (a redesigned Ford Mustang by Shelby)

With that said, I'd like to have seen KITT as a Ford GT, but some how I don't think they'd fit the bill to total up a few $100k car for a TV show. While a 6cyl mustang can be used on the stunts that destroy the cars.
I'm just gonna reserve my vote for feb 17th. it may impress me more then expected.

I love the guy who's doing the voice (Gob from Arrested Development) The reason he calls him Mike is it's not Michael who's driving this one, but his son.
Also, The Mustang is sexy as hell. I miss the old TA too, but this is a new version and it's a new Kitt. So bring on the Shelby.
It sounds very good regarding the Knight Rider coming back to the scene. I'm a big fan of the old series and I used to look at it in my s.c younger days. But still, the old series holds good quality when one is going to judge the content.

KITT would look good as a Camaro, but it's nearly two years away from being reality.

I agree with wolfbait74, the CAMARO probably would've made a better choice. True, its not out yet, but its only ~1 year away (remember, that car models are actually out ~6 mo. before model date) and what better way to promote it (in addition to Transformers). Also, (from what I've seen) the new KITT looks almost exactly a Cobra, whereas the original KITT had the body of the TA, but there were distinguishing differences from the production models. I haven't noticed any such characteristics on the new KITT yet.
In addition, I think that without another real muscle car on the market, the Mustang has been a bit over exposed lately.

There are plently of 4-Gen TA's out there and they would make a far better K.I.T.T than anything else.
The producers have failed before its even released, more interested in making a fast buck than keeping with the original concept. (Or all driving around in free Mustang's)

Personally I like the new car. Look at what kind of cars drive around on American streets today, mostly SUVs. A sleek sportscar looks stupid next to them. It's a tougher world and you need a tougher car.

I love this design. It's perfect for our tougher world. The Trans Am was never my favorite, and the Knight 2000 looked too sissy to me. It didn't look like it could stand up well in a fight. The only part I liked about the old car was the tough looking scanner bar. Oddly, that's the one thing I don't like about this one.

So many people knocked Michael Bay for 'ruining' Transformers by making Bumblebee a camaro and giving Optimus flames. Do you want a yellow herbie? bollocks you do. His reimaging gave TF a new lease of life and what a great film! overall it was recieved well enough to do well at the box office!
The script writers were from the OC for the new KR right? so it shouldn't be too corny?
And I bet Mike Tracer has no idea that Michael Knight is his father. What was that knight rider episode where michael meets an ex who he was with when he was michael long? could be a love child? would make a lot of sense.
And the idea of the car being a 'Stang is growing on me! it looks bloody mean, back in the 80's everything was becoming streamlined and angular, it was what they thought the future would be like. why are manufacturers making they're cars look muscular and menacing and not angular and streamlined? it's keeping with the times. The pontiac trans am was never a super car, nor is the shelby, but it's a lot more potent out the box than the trans am ever was.
I am looking forward to seeing this when it comes to the UK!

However, having been used in transformers and other media stunts, its easy to see why the Knightrider production krew had to choose the mustang which is 2nd best. A reminder to all that the actual 2009 production camaro will indeed look 99.9% like its concept causin. And being engineered here in Melbourne Australia, I have had the priveledge of seeing the production fleet at street level. Fukn awesome!

Actually the studio approached all of the big three to see if they were interested in supporting the show. All submitted conceptual designs. Gm submitted the new Camaro, and the hideous GTO. But would not agree to use the Camaro until fall of 09. Dodge was not interested while Ford submitted both Ford GT and the Shelby 500KR. The Ford GT turned the most heads of the producers, but in the end the car was far too expensive to use. As for their choice, I think they made the best choice possible! The aggressive , stealth-like styling of the 500KR is perfect for KITT. You redneck GM guys always make me laugh! You hate Ford so bad that even though Ford has virtually the only real muscle car out there (Before you say anything, Corvette is sports car, and Camaro is 2 years away) youre already totally against this show. Not to mention that the 500KR mustang out performs virtually every car under 50k out there! And lets not forget the original 85 Trans Am was a terd! I should know I owned one for 2 long and painful years...It was the most under powered car I've ever owned...when I could keep it out of the shop that is. Oh and can't forget the lovely hubcaps! I think what would really make you guys happy is if it was a Chevy Monte Carlo with Dale Jr. as Michael Knight.

FORD has taken alot of heat from critics in the past and when challenged to meet the heet, FORD'S legacy speaks for its self. this show was by far my favorite show of the 80's, and I'm a huge T/A and camaro fan, but I think their best choice should of been to appeal to the continuity of the 80's series. This is where the first tv movie and TKR went wrong. The old show was heavy on the relationship between micheal and kitt, and how they played off each other's skills. Thanks to Fords major investment, the new trailer only makes a point of showcasing the car, and very little of anything else. The choice of car was important as well, though i'm disappointed that they didn't have a GM pony car, the mustang still fits quite well. It should be noted that the original series was not actually sponsored by GM though they did supply them with xtra "black t-tops"(they only referred to it as a T/A in early episodes). I think they should have brought back at least some of the original cast to tie-in the old and new, as well I agree that Hasselhoff should of taken up Devon's role. They should also have an appearance from the original Kitt (Wiliam Daniels) as a different car, in the same way Karr and Kitt were different, explaining the new Kitt as an upgrade. As goofy as the original series became, it was the best formula for this kind of show. This show's only real chance at a series is appealing to original fans and keeping true to the original plot line...ps.it's gotta have turbo boost.

I thought the Movie was great!!!! I also think the Mustang was perfect for the role of K.I.T.T. There isn't anything wrong with FORD!! My hat is off to the minds behind all of it:) I was very impressed:)

Pontiac no longer makes the fire bird and its sister car the camareo dosent come out till 09 which would have cost way to much to prduce with. The corvette zr1 would have been a good choice but one again there is a money issue. also other opions inclded a 08 challenger wich is a very nice car but that car is also just barley being relseased and would have cost more money, the charger but it is a four door car and kitt would have looked like a racing grocery getter, and finnaly the dode viper would have been an great car except for the fact that it would be too expesive. In addition the Ford mustang is a good fit because it is an american sports car, and it is fairly cheap so all in all with all the options they had i belive they made an ok choice not the best choice but an ok choice.

Like most have said this is somewhat of a sequel and the mustang is a great way of saying muscle and speed. The color transformation shows futuristic as well. Can we not support a show we all used to love no matter the kind of car?? Ok, the car looks good but it should of atleast similar look like the front of the old Kitt. Meaning that the head lights would be hidden and no grill. The producers should of atleast taken the corvette. Anyhow, the trans am still looks way better than this mustang.

Am I the only person who think the Mustang isn't a bad idea? Don't get me wrong, I loved the Firebird, but it's a rougher tougher world and needs a KITT with a bit less style and a bit more muscle and there's no muscle car out there with more than the Mustang. Except maybe the Charger ;-)
As for not watching just because it's a Ford... that's fine, I guess you're entitled to an opinion. Think I'll wait and see before making the judgement.

Personally, the Firebird is way better. I hate Mustangs. But, I'll give it a shot since I'm a big fan. Can't NOT watch it just because I hate the car itself. Maybe the show will give me a possible liking to the Mustang.

Stinch has a good point, this is a sequel, not a remake. I still feel that a Mustang GT would have been better than a Shelby Mustang, less boxy. But I saw the Shelby Mustang in I Am Legend and it didn't look that bad. I'll give this show a chance.
Also, note that Glen Larson, the producer of the 80s show, is NOT involved in this new one. He is doing a MOVIE THEATER movie to come out in 2010, and they have NOT chosen the car for that yet. Glen Larson promises his car will look a lot more like what fans of the 80s show would expect.
@Kevin - this isn't a series yet. NBC has only approved this TV movie. The thought is if this does well that they will make it into a series.

I thiught i saw a cobra on the back (on other pictures also on the side), so i guess it's a Shelby (a redesigned Ford Mustang by Shelby)
The Mustang thing is kinda crazy... they should have used a more inconspicuous vehicle.

The new KITT is a Mustang because Ford has a contract with NBC, so pretyt much every show that will have cars in them will use a large quality of Fords.
With that said, I'd like to have seen KITT as a Ford GT, but some how I don't think they'd fit the bill to total up a few $100k car for a TV show. While a 6cyl mustang can be used on the stunts that destroy the cars.
I'm just gonna reserve my vote for feb 17th. it may impress me more then expected.

I saw the trayler on Youtube it is piss poor I have left mesages with both nbc and the dude that put the vid on the tube to tell then what I think I will give it a chance but I'll no hold my breth and I too think a GT 40 would have been mutch better after all it very easy to make dummy shells for stunt cars.
I love the guy who's doing the voice (Gob from Arrested Development) The reason he calls him Mike is it's not Michael who's driving this one, but his son.
Also, The Mustang is sexy as hell. I miss the old TA too, but this is a new version and it's a new Kitt. So bring on the Shelby.
It sounds very good regarding the Knight Rider coming back to the scene. I'm a big fan of the old series and I used to look at it in my s.c younger days. But still, the old series holds good quality when one is going to judge the content.

Of course the new KITT isn't a Firebird. The morons at Pontiac have dropped the 'Bird permanently, never to return. And Chevy almost made the same mistake with the Camaro.
KITT would look good as a Camaro, but it's nearly two years away from being reality.
Whether NBC is in bed with Ford or not, at least the Shelby is a real production car. What else were they gonna choose, a Charger? Like that's a real sports car!
The Ford Shelby totally ruins the aspects of KITT. He is supposed to be sleek and smooth, not fat and boxy. And whats with Mike...Good try guys but the show won't fly unless you lose the Ford. My recommendation since the early 90's is if there was to be a new series that the Acura NSX would be a perfect fit.
Anyway, won't watch because of the terrible vehicle choice.
I'll withhold judgement until I see it, but...
I agree with wolfbait74, the CAMARO probably would've made a better choice. True, its not out yet, but its only ~1 year away (remember, that car models are actually out ~6 mo. before model date) and what better way to promote it (in addition to Transformers). Also, (from what I've seen) the new KITT looks almost exactly a Cobra, whereas the original KITT had the body of the TA, but there were distinguishing differences from the production models. I haven't noticed any such characteristics on the new KITT yet.
In addition, I think that without another real muscle car on the market, the Mustang has been a bit over exposed lately.
What's next? Are they going to remake the movie Vanishing Point and have the guy drive a Focus?
As a fan of Knight Rider im a lil disapointed that they didnt choose a car that was very reminiscent of the original K.I.T.T......but it isn't the original K.I.T.T. its a new version so im holding out hope that they make it worthwhile to watch.it looks as if there will be a new generation of Knight Rider for me to get into (even though the "Michael's son" story sounds kinda uh..lame, and why is it "Tracer instead of "Knight" if he's supposed to be Michaels son?and the double spoilers on the new K.I.T.T. suck) im a big enough fan to at least watch this and hope its good enough to produce an new series.
I like the idea of a car that you can buy and that is what i liked about the TA you can buy one for yourself and kitt it up!!!
The GT500KR is in production and not some concept car that will never see the light of day!!

Knight Rider without a Trans AM is like Star Wars without Jedi Knights.
There are plently of 4-Gen TA's out there and they would make a far better K.I.T.T than anything else.
The producers have failed before its even released, more interested in making a fast buck than keeping with the original concept. (Or all driving around in free Mustang's)

I love this design. It's perfect for our tougher world. The Trans Am was never my favorite, and the Knight 2000 looked too sissy to me. It didn't look like it could stand up well in a fight. The only part I liked about the old car was the tough looking scanner bar. Oddly, that's the one thing I don't like about this one.

So many people knocked Michael Bay for 'ruining' Transformers by making Bumblebee a camaro and giving Optimus flames. Do you want a yellow herbie? bollocks you do. His reimaging gave TF a new lease of life and what a great film! overall it was recieved well enough to do well at the box office!

And I bet Mike Tracer has no idea that Michael Knight is his father. What was that knight rider episode where michael meets an ex who he was with when he was michael long? could be a love child? would make a lot of sense.
And the idea of the car being a 'Stang is growing on me! it looks bloody mean, back in the 80's everything was becoming streamlined and angular, it was what they thought the future would be like. why are manufacturers making they're cars look muscular and menacing and not angular and streamlined? it's keeping with the times. The pontiac trans am was never a super car, nor is the shelby, but it's a lot more potent out the box than the trans am ever was.

A reminder to all that the actual 2009 production camaro will indeed look 99.9% like its concept causin. And being engineered here in Melbourne Australia, I have had the priveledge of seeing the production fleet at street level. Fukn awesome!

And if you're going to have to do it, drop the act that Americans can make cars that go around corners and choose a Ferrari F50 or even the Enzo. But even if the car doesn't work theres so much more to it. one of the things i think that made the old series so great were K.I.T.T and michaels team work, they just both worked together prefectly, the old Trans Am again worked prefect with michaels image if u get me. And i think the new car and character look like there going to work well too, i know the new car looks boxy as some have said but if you watch i am legend it really shows what it looks like on film.. and i dont know about other people but i think it looks great! ofcourse all this is without seeing the actual movie, i could be wrong and it could turn and really bad. i say "dont think its goin to be bad by i 15sec clip" wait for aleast a trailer!

Actually the studio approached all of the big three to see if they were interested in supporting the show. All submitted conceptual designs. Gm submitted the new Camaro, and the hideous GTO. But would not agree to use the Camaro until fall of 09. Dodge was not interested while Ford submitted both Ford GT and the Shelby 500KR. The Ford GT turned the most heads of the producers, but in the end the car was far too expensive to use. As for their choice, I think they made the best choice possible! The aggressive , stealth-like styling of the 500KR is perfect for KITT. You redneck GM guys always make me laugh! You hate Ford so bad that even though Ford has virtually the only real muscle car out there (Before you say anything, Corvette is sports car, and Camaro is 2 years away) youre already totally against this show. Not to mention that the 500KR mustang out performs virtually every car under 50k out there! And lets not forget the original 85 Trans Am was a terd! I should know I owned one for 2 long and painful years...It was the most under powered car I've ever owned...when I could keep it out of the shop that is. Oh and can't forget the lovely hubcaps! I think what would really make you guys happy is if it was a Chevy Monte Carlo with Dale Jr. as Michael Knight.

It's so true. CHEVROLET fans do tend to beat up on FORD fans just because they think they have the right of way. FORD has taken alot of heat from critics in the past and when challenged to meet the heet, FORD'S legacy speaks for its self. CHEVROLET was made to suffer the Mustang BOSSES and SHELBY'S in the 60's & 70's. Before that, FORD'S A/C COBRA was the feared Corvette killer--became legend. In fact. when Ferrari stated FORD could not even begin to compete with Ferrari's legacy they were then punished by FORD'S GT40 over and over. Yes, FORD knows how to win races. Is it not true the Mustang has by far out sold any CHEVROLET? HUUMMM!!!

no one can replace old KITT looking back at it the car the moves was great back then and still is, but times have moved on KITT needs an upgrade how ever not sure about the voice will it grow on me who knows cos i not seen it yet. What made Knight Rider well i think it was the whole team from devon bonney RC michael etc... so the new team have got there work cut out. I would have liked to see Daivd Hasslof take the roll as Devon i think that would have worked

Lets not forget that the Mustang of today has a following much like the firebirds from 20 years ago. I think the show will do pretty well. And, having Mustang fanatic cousins with a couple supercharged mustangs each, and having ridden in them, I like Mustangs alot. They are fast cars!

I'm sorry, but NBC's new incarnation of KR is going to be worse than TKR and KR2K combined. What were NBC thinking? KITT is an '82 Pontiac Trans Am like the General Lee is a '69 Dodge Charger. What would the Dukes movie have been like if they'd just slapped orange paint and a rebel flag on some newer car?
Also, no Turbo Boost? Half the fun of the show was watching KITT jump through the side of a semi trailer or a wall. New KITT probably couldn't even make it through a wall, it doesn't even have the MBS, just some lame "self healing" capability. So is it just gunna sit in a corner and rebuild itself like Christine?
And for the record, THIS woulda

this show was by far my favorite show of the 80's, and I'm a huge T/A and camaro fan, but I think their best choice should of been to appeal to the continuity of the 80's series. This is where the first tv movie and TKR went wrong. The old show was heavy on the relationship between micheal and kitt, and how they played off each other's skills. Thanks to Fords major investment, the new trailer only makes a point of showcasing the car, and very little of anything else. The choice of car was important as well, though i'm disappointed that they didn't have a GM pony car, the mustang still fits quite well. It should be noted that the original series was not actually sponsored by GM though they did supply them with xtra "black t-tops"(they only referred to it as a T/A in early episodes). I think they should have brought back at least some of the original cast to tie-in the old and new, as well I agree that Hasselhoff should of taken up Devon's role. They should also have an appearance from the original Kitt (Wiliam Daniels) as a different car, in the same way Karr and Kitt were different, explaining the new Kitt as an upgrade. As goofy as the original series became, it was the best formula for this kind of show. This show's only real chance at a series is appealing to original fans and keeping true to the original plot line...ps.it's gotta have turbo boost.
Im exited to hear Night Rider is coming back movie or other that was my favorite as a kid. I don't think the Hoff will be the Man running K.I.T.T so the when in the tv spot when K.I.T.T he meant the new guy. The car looks great new car for a new time why should it look like the old one. Can't wait to see it.
I thought the Movie was great!!!! I also think the Mustang was perfect for the role of K.I.T.T. There isn't anything wrong with FORD!! My hat is off to the minds behind all of it:) I was very impressed:)
they should of have made kitt following their original idea make him out of a every day driving car. like all of the other shows that have been successful.who cares what kind of car kitt is but can anyone afford it.it would have been cool if they made kitt a truck!any truck!
I would first like to start out by saying that a am very happy to see night rider comming back. But for evey one out there who belives that kitt should be a diffrent car, then ou have got to know that the producers really didnt have many choices for an american 2 door sports car. Pontiac no longer makes the fire bird and its sister car the camareo dosent come out till 09 which would have cost way to much to prduce with. The corvette zr1 would have been a good choice but one again there is a money issue. also other opions inclded a 08 challenger wich is a very nice car but that car is also just barley being relseased and would have cost more money, the charger but it is a four door car and kitt would have looked like a racing grocery getter, and finnaly the dode viper would have been an great car except for the fact that it would be too expesive. In addition the Ford mustang is a good fit because it is an american sports car, and it is fairly cheap so all in all with all the options they had i belive they made an ok choice not the best choice but an ok choice.
What a great way to bring back the Trans Am.
But no, an overated Mustang.... The least they could have done was use a Saleen.

Like most have said this is somewhat of a sequel and the mustang is a great way of saying muscle and speed. The color transformation shows futuristic as well. Can we not support a show we all used to love no matter the kind of car?? Cmon people support the new and improved Kitt, my 2 young sons even got into it and didn't move the whole time knowing it was a new version of something we enjoyed when we were younger!
Well picking a car must have been a big problem because it must be American and American cars are all crap (as cars not looks). They didn't really pick Ford actually only Ford picked them.

they actually had a brain and didn't make it one of those disgusting Pontitrash GTO's. GM didn't have a V-8 Muscle car on the market so they lost out. Plain & Simple. Thank God for that too because GM/GMC Suck a big one just like you.
