Seems to happen most when Kitt has some kind of impact. I've seen it pop open when kitt gets ramed from the side.
My guess would be that the Trans Ams hood latch isn't all that great at seems to pop open at any chance it gets.

I put this in another post somewhere but dont feel like looking for it. The hood on the car isn't open. Knight Rider used a special overlay body which covered the entire car except for the nose. The extra body was overlaid onto the car being used to protect the real body underneath. They mainly used this for scene where KITT is shot at so the bullet hits could be placed under this shell. They also used this for scene where kitt would be hit by another car or crashing through an object. (a wall of fence) again to protect the real cars body. This saved the studios alot of body work on the real cars. If you take a look at those scenes where the hood looks to be opened, also look at the big space on the top of the windsheild. Usually the side mirrors look like they are sagiing off as well. This shows where this extra body is actually on the car!

Yeah the front window always looks really obvious to me with that shell.... the window looks like its sunk right into the car.
I still don't know why I never noticed it as a kid way back when it first came out

Which is exactly the way it should be. What manufacturer made that, Knightdriver? I personally like to see more equal centre heights, right in the middle of the nose. As in the bottom lip is very similarly sized to the top section, but just a bit smaller. Shut up rockatteer

Aussieknight, The nose was manufactured by myself. I make my own KNIGHT parts. That was my original designed nose I did. My new one I am doing is a modified original studio nose that will have the same features only on a real KITT styled nose. I just havent completed it yet so no pictures are ready of it as of yet.

What I DO want is the cool KITT graphic on your page for my laptop. It'd look good as a status screen in a replica, no? I actually HAVE seen your page before (I just checked it). Very impressive stuff. A lot of guys (like me, for example) talk about it a lot, but never do it. Good to see someone doing it and showing us how.

LOL, That is originally what it was made for. I (along with MSKen) am working on a whole animated DVD for use in replica's. All those goodies you saw on the show will be reproduced as well as many new ones to play on your replica's monitors. He put it on my site, per my request, for something different looking for a main page.
