SPM= Cool or Work of Evil?

Post by knightimmortal » Mon Apr 28, 2003 12:07 am

I love my dramatic titles.

This should be a fairly simple poll. In celebration of the fourth season now being shown on the U.S. Sci Fi Channel, I figured it was about time to have this one blown open. In the past, we have had your little debates open up about SPM, etc in the middle of threads, but have never truly gotten a true view on whether the majority likes it or not.

So here is your chance. Vote away and share your thoughts!

The concept and speed increase was nice, but to be honest, the rest of it, just made Kitt look...stupid, though to a point he looked cool as a hard-top convertable.

By the way KI, I emailed you. :)

Honestly, SPM doesn't fascinate me like it once did. However, I still believe that at 300 plus mph you'd need some aero-stabilizers of some sort.

I think this poll is lacking an alternate, third choice...

I'm indifferent. I see SPM for what it was: a gimmick to boost ratings.

No, because either you liked it or you didn't, I am not going to entertain those who can't make up their minds. ;)

yeah no kidding
and ur talkin bout a road car here....not a formula one car or something, and even those would struggle to keep grip at 300 mph lol

Thanks KI, for putting together this poll! I have always wondered what the majority thought about SPM.

I loved SPM because of all of the extra attention payed to KITT, the heightened feeling of the action, not to mention the incredible sound effects!

Just remember the first time you saw SPM AT NIGHT! [This Friday! - KNIGHT BEHIND BARS]

Sure, it was a ridiculous and redundant feature, and reused the same film shots over and over again, but it was and still is DA BOMB!

Really, SPM didn't affect me that much. It was interesting at first, at the beginning of season 4, but it came a time when I got tired of it. It was always the same thing, episode after episode... SPM, SPM, SPM, SPM.

However, SPM gives me a funny parallel. It recalls me when I was younger, I was watching old Inspector Gaget cartoon on TV. When it was time to go faster, shifter on 2nd gear, his minivan was transformed into a sportscar.

SPM makes KITT look like ugly to me, it's just too unbelievable in my opinion. I wish they would've used the money they spent for SPM to create better episodes (=scripts) so Knight Rider could've been last longer.

I love SPM. I think it was sweet!! Were nitpicks present when they used it? Yes, but I thought it was cool as a kid and still think it's neat.

It probibly would have done better if they hadn't OVER DONE IT! Stupid thing looked like a jet took a nose dive in to Kitt.

The convertible however... That was a nice touch.

I don't totally dis-like it. Heck. I made a moving gif of SPM at night. But, they really did overdue it and the sped up film visuals made KITT into some sort of Tron car. And the price tag for making that visual image of speed was way too high.

Though, also doing the convertible was a great idea. (Even if a topless KITT in an action show is hard to place in the scripts.) If I were to make a KITT Trans-Am, the rare Trans-Am convertible would be my number one search priority.

Interesting, as of this posting, the vote results are like a horse race. Going nose to nose... (Could we wind up with a split community?)

Hmm...I hate to bring another negative opinion but...I personally don't like SPM...one of the main reasons being that if Kitt were supposed to be going 300 mph, wouldn't all that stuff sticking out and up on the body interfere with aerodynamics and cause drag on the car?? Am I being too technical?? lol... :D

Those fins and thingys were supposed to help air flow and the aerodynamics to give more speeeeeed

I am starting to think that SciFi doesn't care for SPM all too much, today they cut out another SPM engagement toward the end of the show! At least it wasn't the night time one in the middle of the show...

I have to wonder if the unedited version of this episode, KNIGHT BEHIND BARS, shows the deactivation of SPM at night, but I kind of doubt it the way Michael says it, "Back to Cruise Mode and hit EBS" [all they show is EBS engagement]...

The other eppy with the missing SPM engagement was KNIGHT STING on Tuesday, and they didn't even show Michael requesting it or pressing the button that time...

This reminds me, in SCENT OF ROSES, when they activate SPM to get to the crime where Michael gets shot, they don't show the engagement either. But it doesn't appear to be a syndication cut, or is it?
