If we do get the dreaded knock it off letter from them I'd rather the game be done and out in the wild of the internet than be killed off after a buggy demo. That would be years of work waisted because we couldn't keep working on it.
Very wise approach and quite understandable.
In fact, if I were you, I'd make sure the code concerning all copyrighted material can be 'as easily' swapped out as possible, just in case such a situation comes down the pike.

Right now, I'm tuned into another person's stream where he's creating his dream reality. It does use copyrighted material and the company has issued a Cease & Desist upon him. Until he satisfied the needs by the minimalist of alterations.

Just saying. Even if at the last second, you have to rename the main character to Mike Night, Bonny Barnstorm and May Curtz, it may come down to the smallest of things to save the overall project. "See? The light bar on the nose is blue. That's not Knight Rider. It is Day Driver..."

We state the game is parody. I don't know if that holds up since I'm not changing names. I had considered making all text external xml files so uh some modder could easily change names if we had to go that route. I'm already doing this for the cars in game if you see where I'm going with that.

Can't wait for NBC to stumble across this thread at the wrong time!

Ha no kidding. This would make one hell of a piece of evidence against me if I was doing this for profit. Though the amount of (for profit) copyright breakers on the play store is staggering especially with Back to the Future. I'm really surprised they don't do a better job of policing their older properties.

And we all want to nuke NBC for being that one annoying kid in class that no one likes, because they like to mess up stuff we love or our creations. :P

I don't know. Apart from the ones failing on my nightgown.

I see what you're getting at. If the situation goes critical, it will be easy to alter all names in the cheapest fix around legality rain. Then, it's nobody's responsibility if the end users casually go in and fix the links of Mike Night back to Michael Knight...bla, bla, bla. Kind of like how GTA for the PC officially can't let Superman fly around their virtual city of Vinewood. But, home modding can easily have the entire Marvel/DC world going in while Kitt turbo boosts over everything and...heh, there's just too many fun mods going on in there to even bother casually listing them, here. Last video I saw, think Skyrim had moved in.

Again, you clearly aren't reading the posts here, and if you are, you're not understanding the situation that could occur if Ken were to "tapk things out with Universal and NBC" pal. Bad stuff will happen. That's like telling the other basebell team your plans for the game. Sounds good? Probably, to you at least.

Whoa...no need for friction, here. MSKen knows what he is doing.

In a perfect world, MSKen could get NBC & Universal to fully support his vision.

For some reason, my mind wants to go towards the old movie War Games as an example on this...

Let's say MSKen wanted complete support from those two massive entities. In a perfect world, permission would be as simple as a game of Tic-Tac-Toe. Simple and right to the point.

Instead, we got the other end with the game of Thermal Nuclear Warfare. It's vast, complicated, extremely complex, even. So many elements are happening at once.

Think even I'm getting lost in that comparison...

OK...try this...

In a perfect world, MR. NBC, MR. Universe and MR. Ken meet in a coffee shop and have a nice chat about using properties X, Y and Z. Peaceful chat over the table leads to MR. Ken getting his fully functional, non profit game going.

In a realistic world, MR. NBC has something like fifty other people doing round-a-bout things and even more lawyer types who know every little letter to whole books that can squash roaches with. Said lawyers go to whole courtrooms to push around the weight of what their rules state. More people get involved and the entire legal system can come down upon MR. Ken...whom has all the legal weight of that Tic-Tac-Toe player.

And is that even remotely clearing up the issue? No? Well...that's a realistic world for you. Confusing and overly complicated.

In case of a C&D IMO Ken should change the game from Knight Rider: TFG to Ingot Rider, now that would be hilarious.

Michael Knight & KITT? Who's that? I only know a guy called Mewfan and his sentient, indestructible Vulcar Ingot!
