That's interesting news DJGM, I'm sure self publishing will require the XNA Subscription (You needed it when Microsoft attempted to open an indie dev market on the 360 a few years ago, it was very unrewarding, and you could only play games of other people who had the XNA subscription as well, so due to microsoft making it overly complicated.... they yanked the plug) , and the microsoft approval process will still hinder any chances of us ever getting our free game to Xbox 360. We'll just have to wait to hear the details. We don't even know the full details for Xbox One or PS4 just yet. So it's all still just a pipe dream.

AFAIK ... since Microsoft axed the XNA program and related SDK tools, an Xbox LIVE Indie Games membership
is currently required at US$99 per year. Also (AFAIK) both Indie Games and Live Arcade brands, are being axed
later in the year, possibly to coincide with the general release of the Xbox ONE, and downloadable games from
indie developers are to made available within a new version of the Xbox Live Marketplace, which I believe
would most likely be available to existing Xbox 360 users as well as those that cough up for the Xbox ONE.

Microsoft said they still want to sell 25 million more Xbox 360 units even after the Xbox ONE is released, so
there's no chance of them dropping it like a stone, and treating it like a 2nd class citizen, as they did with
the Original Xbox gaming system surprisingly soon after the Xbox 360 was released.

Obviously, Microsoft still ultimately want everyone to get the Xbox ONE, but after the recent debacle over
the U-turns related to their highly controversial DRM and other bad PR shenanigans, that seems unlikely.

Just want to announce that we (the development team) are taking a break for the rest of the summer. Some of us need time with our families and some of us (myself included) have branched off to work on an android/ios apocalyptic battle racer due out later this year. We will be selling this game for $1.50 to raise money to continue funding Knight Rider The Fan Game. With this money we intend to purchase the final two items we need for an in house motion capture studio, and hopefully raise enough money to help speed up the development of the game by hiring some outside help. So for those of you asking how you can help support us... if you like twisted metal style racing games... then we'll have more details soon! :D Don't fear though, we're still working on KR:TFG, in fact a lot of the code that will be made for our stand alone title will be needed for KR:TFG. We also have a bunch of new photos to add to the website and we even completed some new car requests, and a new game play video! We'll announce the update for that on facebook later this month.

If the mods wouldn't mind, please unstick this thread until we return to the project in the fall. It would be much appreciated! As always everyone we thank you all for your continued support!

And, I came rushing in here to find out why the topic was un-stickied.

Enjoy some time off from this project. I certainly know how a long running effort of love can be endlessly taxing. After all, Plight, just like her star, never ever seems to stop demanding more effort.

Roughly, percentage wise, how far along is the progress for the game now development is on summer hiatus?

It's hard to put a percentage on everything. I can tell you code wise we are about 60-65% done. Art wise, I would say we are 75-80% done. Assembly on the other hand, animations, voice overs, and the main script... still need a lot of work.

That isn't bad progress at all, considering the immense scale of the project from such a small development team
working in their spare time. Like many others, I look forward to the end result, whenever it's eventually ready.
:good:

Meanwhile, I'll make do with a couple of little known games called Saints Row IV and Grand Theft Auto V ... !

i have a question if Jennifer Traceur is the driver for K.R.O. then how does that involve Martin Jantzen turning K.R.O. evil or is that something well have to wait to play the game.

Whoa...the Knight Reformulation One is in the timeline of this game's world? Tubular!

And, here I was. Merely dreaming of stepping out of K.I.T.T. after making a cash withdrawal from his 'magic slot' and walking into the game's casino to cheat with dice that use a star wipe to alway win at every roll.

How do I explain this without spoiling the storyline? Bear in mind that the KRO in our game is not the actual ferrari F355, but a Testarossa, so a concept model so to speak. One reason for that is that the F355 didn't exist in 1987 yet.
We won't be ignoring Martin Jantzen or the Team Knight Rider storyline though, so don't worry about that. :good:

You won't believe what other fun appearances we have squeezed in the Fan Game's timeline!

I can't say anything about playing casino games yet, but there will be some casino's in the open city of the game. To suit the Knight Rider theme it's called after Knight Rider 2000: Quayton city.

At least...-somebody- that recognizes the efforts of Indie game makers should offer up an award or two.

While being able to include this game as apart of that 'Humble Bundle' gaming package would be an incredible chance for world wide recognition, even that charity 'pay what you want' deal would violate Universal's 'no profit' bit, I'm sure.

I met Rebecca Holden at KnightCon UK back in September, mentioned this game, and asked if she'd like to reprise her
role as April, abeit in voice only. She said she like to do it, and the game devs should contact her via her website.

How cool would that be if this game could get one of the original KR cast on board to voice their character?!?

I wish I could help you on the game, but I"m not the brightest thing in the world, and not very talented :( However, I do want to pass on my appreciation for your hard work! I couldn't see the pictures, but I know it will be awesome! And if there is anything I can do, let me know :D

We're still up and running, but at the moment we're more active on our facebook page. Be sure to check it out and a little like would always help :D

Ken is actually considering to ask some of the original actors to reprise their KR role as an in-game voice. At this moment don't expect the Hoff voicing himself though... other cast actors are much easier to get a hold on, like Rebecca Holden. Speaking of the characters, we've got some BIG news coming up on that end, that surely won't disappoint you! Be sure to check this page at the end of november.

Meanwhile, here are some pics from our facebook page for those who aren't on facebook:

Game is looking better and better even if its just the menuscreen. Is it going to do a fast camera turnaround as you hover over the menuscreen options all over the car and inside or is it just screenshots that change in the background?

Knight Racer, what you'll see in the menu is a sort of presentation turntable of KITT that's running in the background. Instead of just playing a video, it's all in-game in real time. To get an idea this was one of the videos we used for reference:

Due to legal reasons (that's another beast of its own with the RIAA) we can not use original music from the series. All of our music is fan created which we think gives more to the title "The Fan Game". We also have two great composers/musicians who have submitted well over 40 tracks to us already and the list is still growing. BUT nothing is stopping you from importing your own music into the game. On the PC version KITT will have a "user" radio station where you can put in your own music/playlist.

DJGM, Thank you so much for passing along the word! I really regret not making it to Southern Knights Atlanta 2013, I had plans to show Rebecca the project and ask if she would like to reprise her role. Thankfully my friends put in a good word for me there as well and she seems really excited about it! We have two celebrity voices that we think will be more than happy to reprise their roles. We can't mention the second just yet but when it's official we will let everyone know. Great thing about voice work is they can do it from anywhere. We have to cover the studio costs (understandably) so it may be a while before we can do that. We also have a few pretty well known youtube personalities donating their voices for the game as well. It's going to be a fun time when we get that far! :D

We won't let you guys in the dark over here so here's a poll from our Facebook page:

It's 1987. Michael and KITT have been partners for 5 years now. April and Bonnie are working together for the first time ever. What new features would you like to see them give KITT?

We've noticed people mostly want some old features and one-offs back, feel free to post your favourite feature or the item you always wanted KITT to have! :good:
