If A Team movie succeeds, maybe KR will be made!

Post by davidknightrider » Wed Jan 13, 2010 5:03 am

Well, the A Team trailer looks good, if a bit crazy.
They seem to have done the following.

Hired good quality actors, Neeson and Cooper.
Essentially used the same Van from the original series,
Same or similar clothing worn by the characters compared to the original series.

So visually, the movie just screams "A Team" straight at you.

Now for Knight Rider, we have a bigger problem.
For starters, the Car of KR is practically the star of the show.
And since any Movie remake is going to completely disregard the original series, and the fact that its illogical to use a 1982 Transam, its going to be a big task to choose the right vehicle.

My guess is that they will go with something custom made, maybe based on another car.
As for style and look, such as Leather jackets, hi tech electronics etc, these would be easily done.

So I guess the main factor for the Movie is going to be the car, and thats a pretty big task to complete.

Here is the trailer:

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/397176/ ... rives.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It looks great mainly because they've hardly changed the format as far as I can tell - everythings instantly recognisable.

Pity the recent series didnt take the same approach :)

I'd love to see a knight rider movie trailer which was essentially the series opening credits

I'm probably way out of my depth commenting here, but why not have a 1982 Trans-Am in the movie? Surely it's a 'classic' car by now? If the A-Team can have their van - and I never actually watched the show, but the film does look like a chip off the old block - why can't Michael Knight have the original KITT car?

I would love to see the old formula replicated, but with a younger (not teenage) Michael, obviously. A mature 'leader' like Devon is a definite must!

I think a KR Movie would do Very Well!!! I'm not so sure about what Glen A. Larson wants to do as a film, however. I would like to see the Hoff in it in some way. :good: :good:

Maybe not an 1982 trans am, but there are still modern slick cars which can be upgraded to something special. The Mustang from the show wasn't bad but it had a totally different vibe.

It's all about the licensing. Now if an existing vehicle is used as KITT, then people could make their own versions, like all the copies you have seen before. But the thing about the Knight 2000 is that it's not a production line vehicle, not made in mass quantities. In TOS, it looked very simular to a 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am, but that's where all similarities stop. Being what licensing is today, there'd have to be a large amount of money dropped of in whomever's hands to use an existing vehicle. And it would have to be easily recognized as whatever car it really is.

That's why it might be easier and less expensive for a fabricated vehicle that looks like something modern but is not EXACTLY a production car to be KITT. No License to pay for, and different cars could be made for the movie (hero, jump, speed, etc...).

Knight Rider is a classic. I feel leave it alone. Though I did like the continuation idea. There was so much potential there. Just when the show was getting good, it got pulled. Though as a fan, I'm sure if they did make a movie I'd still go and watch it

The key is how long will it take the average fan to forget about the Knight Rider 08 nightmare. That's the key to getting a Knight Rider movie made.

In all reality it was not as good as it should have been. They just went in the wrong direction. For it to only make it 17 episodes really speaks volumes as well.

:D Hello There Everyone,

What speaks volumes here is not the amount of episodes Knight Rider had in the can was NBC's lack of interest and commitment to the show. First to have the show committed to 22 then cut 17 just shows that they really didn't
know what they were doing. Just look at the Jay Leno-Conan O'Brien mess. I disagree the silly comments here about Knight Rider 2008 being a nightmare. That is just not right at all. What also speaks volumes is the fact that NBC didn't to save the show by heavily promoting it and moving to a different night. Not even their best show would have done better in Knight Rider's slot since it was up against Lost and American Idol. The Preemptions didn't help out either. As for the show its self it was fine. Could have better? Yes. Should have it followed the structure of the Pilot? Yes!!! Overall though, it was not as bad as some of the comments here state. As for any Knight Rider Movie, I will be there to watch it as I did with Star Trek in 2009. I would like to see KITT as a Trans AM if possible in the movie.

Well, that is it for now and take care,

:D Hello There Everyone,

I am curious about post here states that KITT in the original series was not an actual Trans AM but a knock off or copy of one. If that is the case then why in the end credits of all of the episodes is Pontiac given credit for supplying vehicles for the show. If KITT was an imitation model then why would Pontiac care about that? Or have the script writers not refer to the car as a Trans Am? Also, in the series pilot Knight Of The Phoenix Michael Long was seen driving from the casino out into the desert in an actual Trans Am. The name and logos are clearly evident when the car pulls out of the parking lot and drives away. Heck, in The Dukes Of Hazzard The General Lee was an actual 1969 Dodge Charger and not some knock off or imitation so, why would it be different here? I do wonder though in the fourth season with the convertible was that an actual Trans Am or some other model car? As for the movie I hope it gets made and soon. I miss the show already and want more... 8)

I think comparing the idea of the KR to the A Team is good one they both had their day and are now possibly making a decent come back. Not sure if comparison to Transformers and Iron Man is valid they have never really gone away

What we could do with for the KR movie is some teasers or promo pictures just to get KR back into the public eye, two years is a long time from now and in that time people might go off the idea of remakes and we could lose our chance.

Super Flash, Pontiac was originally all happy about all the advertisement that it got with having KITT be a Trans-Am. A train full of T/As derailed, and even though the cars were relatively undamaged, Pontiac couldn't sell the cars to consumers, so they were given/sold to Universal to be used as KITTs.

It was when potential customers started coming into the dealerships, and asking for the Knight Rider version of a Trans-Am when they got legal warning from their attorneys stating that if someone pulled a jump or stunt like those featured in the show, Pontiac could be sued. That was when Pontiac asked Glen Lawson to stop having KITT described as a Black Trans-Am, but a Black T-Top.

Go back to Knight of the Phoenix, and listen to Devon's introduction of the Knight 2000 to Michael in the lab after Wilton leaves...it's very clear that the vehicle is not a Trans-Am (or Michael Long's car which he fell onto the hood), it just looks like one.

In real life, of course they were Trans-Ams with a modified nose and all badging removed, and the electronic dashboard with gull-wing steering wheel. But in the Knight Rider universe, where KITT was real, it wasn't simply a Trans-Am that was modified. That's why you never saw the engine under the hood. There should have been modifed turbine engine in the bay, but you would have seen the 5.0 liter 195 hp V-8 that all T/As had.

My point is very simular when a KR movie comes...KITT should be a vehicle that looks like something that would really have been made, that can fit in, but that it's not something that could be taken stock off the dealer's lot, and slightly modified to be. Look at games such as the Burnout franchise. They are cars that look like the bred a Mustang with a GTO, but they never were really produced. Same idea. I think that there's too much money that would be spent trying to have GM, Ford, or Chrysler license an existing vehicle, because they would want to have the vehicle still be recognized as a Camaro, Corvette, Viper, or Mustang...which goes against what the Knight 2000 should be.

I think we are on the right track here :good:
So KNIGHT RIDER is a classic,
KITT can come back and make it, and yes we can forget easily "the 08 nightmare" any time, cause KR AND KITT is timeless, like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, so if this classic returns one day, it must return in the right way :!:
Otherwise it will be a nightmare for the fans expecially for the TOS fans.
So I'm sure KITT will rise again and after our time as well in the distant future :good: :kitt:

If there is a decision made to make a movie, I believe that the KR08 storyline should be incorporated. I do agree that it was NBC that let KR08 fall flat on its face, but the storyline was great and it had so much potential. and I liked the fact that KITT was a Mustang.
KITT: Michael, your blood alcohol level is far too high to allow you to take the wheel.
MIKE: That’s fine. I don’t wanna drive anyway. I want a burger. Take me to a drive-thru.

Glen is working on the KR movie script, there is no involvement with nor plans to involve the KR 08 storyline or its characters as those belong to NBCU. It's based on the original Knight Rider mythology and its characters not unlike the A-Team movie which has the same character names but alternative approaches to the original mythology in order to reintroduce the team's characters with new actors assembled in our modern day.

:D Hello There Everyone,

8) I will make this brief and I tired and don't have an hour to spend responding to WIBoomer1 posts so, I will say this you pretty state what I already know. In Knight Of The Phoenix and for some episodes later the car was referred to as Trans Am. Your reasons for the change in reference after that is right and valid. I agree that KITT 2000 was referred to after that as a black car and/or black T-Top. It sounds stupid but, that is the way it is. The point I was making since you state that KITT was not an actual Trans Am but, some knock off or copy of one then my question was not answered is this why was Pontiac given credit for supplying cars to the show during the end credits if that is the case? Pontiac would not want to be given credit for making fake cars or knock offs. You make alot of good points but, left me with one unanswered question here.

:good: Your last point about the Knight Rider Movie is interesting to say the least. But, I say use The Trans AM I mean if in The A-Team movie they used that black van with the red stripe then why not use it (Trans Am.) Other then Ford which worked in Team Knight Rider and Knight Rider 2008 pilot and series I don't see how any other vehicle will work. I also have learned to make money you to spend it. This movie if made right can make a fortune and what ever car company lends its vehicle for the movie will share in the wind fall. What will go against Knight Rider mythology would be if then didn't use the right car and follow what has been established so far in The Knight Rider Universe.

Well that is it for now and take care,

In the remake movies of Dukes of Hazzard the1969 charger was used, in The A-Team movie, the same GMC van appears to be used, and if the A-Team does become the summer blockbuster of 2010, then I see absolutely no reason why a new KR movie could be made.

The reason KR 08 didn't really work is cos it was no longer, "One Man Can Make A Difference" maybe the Movie could return to that mantra and bring back Michael senior in the mentor role. Saying that, Michael was never alone, as he always had Bonnie or April, Devon, and RC III in the final season so the original series did end up being a 'team'.

All in all, the potential of a KR movie highly depends on the success of the A-Team movie. but with the successes albeit minor of Starsky and Hutch, Dukes and the mega successes of Charlie's Angels and Transformers, the future looks bright for KR. maybe for 2012!

Kr08 failed just because it was bad in nearly every sense of the word. Bad acting, bad decisons, bad storylines, bad character devolpment, bad directing, bad cgi... You can go on and on.

I did think the pilot movie was much better and if they would have followed that blueprint then the show would not have failed as quick as it did.

I don't want a Starsky & Hutch/Dukes of Hazzard type movie. I want an A-Team type movie. S&H/DOH was a parody of itself and a comedy. The A-Team is a summer action movie that was, surprisingly, good! One of the main differences was that the source material for The A-Team was honored and not taken as a joke like in S&H/DOH.
KNIGHT RIDER RELOADED is a series of movies on Youtube to represent a different creative avenue to the Knight Rider we knew in 2008-09.
