KITT vs a tank/

Todays sci-fi episode, a 4th season show was great. The SPM was used in a very believeable manner going thru teh open desert and the story was good with M and K having to penetrate a US Goverment bunker to save Bonnie and innocent hostages...

Anyway KITT pulls up the the outskirts of this base and the bad guy sends a communication saying "welcome" as a tank pulls up to the fence.

How would KITT take on a tank? Microjam the diesel engine electronics and disable it?

Maybe turbo boost into the tanks barrel to snap it off then Micro jam the tanks brakes or wheels or something to stop it?

No, if you remember from Goliath returns, after Garthe went through the army's road stop and the tanks and all, Kitt and Michael came after, and Kitt said something to line of 'Unlike that monster, we can't simply push our way through' and they Turboed over the rock truck, and later the tanks...

why would kitt have to fight a tank? and all he would do is disable ALL of the weapons not needing to worry!

I dont think that Tanks in the early 80s had as much in the way of High Tech. So an electronic disabling would not work I think.

i think it requires electronics to move the turret with the huge cannon, and all KITT would have to do is drive around it and micro the tires

it would still work though even if they did not have as much electronic things. he could just take over the tank and move it out of the way are just drive it off of a cliff

I dont think they did in the 80s. I think it was all still motor driven until the early 90s. But hell what do I know about Tanks. I am not in the "army of one" lol

"I dont think that Tanks in the early 80s had as much in the way of High Tech. So an electronic disabling would not work I think."

As a M577A2 (light armor command track) driver I concur with that statement :) . I think the M1A3 Abrahms is the most advanced track in our inventory, but they are still designed to be operational with all the electronics disabled. The turret could be turned by a hand crank in such an event.

Technolgy I don't think would be the issue with an M1. Although Kitts hide may be as tough as the M1's, I think the concept of inertia would play a huge role. You gotta remeber that tanks carry fuel by the pounds not gallons.

IF you had an M1 running at Kitt at 40 mph with a full complement of shells, ammunition and fuel it would simply knock him aside like Goliath did. Kitt may be worse for the wear due to the impact damage to his systems, but his shell would remain intact I imagine. Kitt would have manueverability on his side and I don't think Michael would be dumb enough to go head to head with an M1.

Kitt would need to find a way to knock out the tanks road wheels to disable it. Now if Bonnie were to reinstall the laser from Kitt vs. Karr, then Kitt could simply disable the road wheels on the track with a well placed shot.

Long story short, Kitt would win!

Thats all that I was thinking and more. I just didnt feel like getting into a discussion about my opinion.

I think it would all depend on what the writer wanted. :)

I think in that episode Bonnie would have started off by telling Micheal that KITT now has a FLUX CAPICITER installed.....................

Why, so he could go back in time?

Depends where KITT was. If they were in the desert, our tanks would get all clogged up with sand like they've been doing of late and be utterly useless against an old Renault 4 and a water pistol, let alone KITT

I don't think Micheal was actually trying to perform a head-on with goliath, he was trying to manuever KITT to ram Goliath's front tire and take it out...of course he failed miserably.

Basically, KITT has one MAJOR advantage over tanks, manueverability. I'd like to see a tank perform a 180. KITT could drive in circles around it while micro-jamming various systems until the driver just got...dizzy or something...lol

the turret would still be turning (no electronics) and at the right angle a smart soldier would shoot and total KITT

I was suggesting that KITT drive around him faster than the turret can turn. And Turbo Boost if he is about to get a shot off.

Or my favorite, hit SPM and run like hell.

Um, most tracked vehicles, like tanks or bulldozers, can turn a full circle in their own width, due to their type of skid steer transmission and lever operation.

KITT vs. a tank, of course KITT would win. He has far greater fuel efficiency, and if nothing else, he could wait out the tank. If KITT had his laser in good working order, he could zero in on one of the tank's tread pins, and melt it, making the tank immobile. Besides that, the tank would never get a lock on such a fast moving target. Even with a direct hit, there's a chance he could withstand it, depending on the type of shell, and the proximity.

My combat engine already ran this simulation with stunning results.

KITT and the tank face off at a stand still.

KITT turbo launches towards the tank.

The tank fires it's main cannon, nailing KITT on the hood...for very little damage.

KITT completes his charge into the tank's left tread, causing a massive amount of damage.

The tank attempts to re-aim at KITT, who has already wizzed by, done a 180 degree turn and is coming back at the weakened area.

KITT flies into the tank and causes total destruction...again, for a massive damage figure.

Fight over. The tank took something like 180%+ damage over KITT's meager 2%. (Or 3%.)
