I hope they never make the KR movie

Hi

This maybe controversial however I am going to say it anyway..

I am a huge fan of the original KR series and was around 8 years old when it first aired. It was a big part of my preteen years and I wanted nothing more than to have a KITT car and be Michael Knight. Well I'm not Michael Knight but I do have a KITT now :)

I am worried at the prospect of a KR movie. The reality is movies need to sell and attract audiences. A KR movie made today with a 30 year old car with a 50+ actor is unlikely to sell. A KR movie now would have the stunts created using CGI, a new car and the storyline might resemble some aspects of the original KR but be an action packed heap of cr@p.

Look what happened to the A Team and Dukes of Hazzard when remade into recent movies. In my opinion the essence of the original series was lost, the movies were made for a new generation with lots of action and poor quality scripts.

I know a lot of KR fans would love to see KITT return as the 1980's Trans AM but I'm afraid it wont be the same. Edward Mulhare has passed on and the rest of the cast are getting older and may not be interested in a re-incarnated KR.

To conclude this rant I say; enjoy the DVD episodes and flag the movie, leave this series in the 80's where it belongs.

Regards

I agree with you 100% NZKnight, KR had been dragged through the mud too many times. The KR movie will most likely be along the lines of the Fast & Furious franchise, that is what they tried with KR 2008 and it ended up being horrible. Hollywood has run out of ideas and it is just trying to cash in on these old names from the past, it's really pathetic. I read a few weeks ago that Arnold may be coming back to do more Terminator movies, he looked worn out in T3 but yet thinks he can do it again more than ten years later.

To be honest NZKnight, I am so glad you posted that! I agree with you and blowersho completely but I didn't want to say anything in case I was the only one. I really don't like it when our favourite TV shows get made into films because the films get way more recognition than the shows which is disappointing to me as the shows are what inspired it and they are, in my opinion, better. Look at the new(ish) 21 Jump Street movie...it cra**ped all over the original series and now a lot of people talk about how "lame" the original looks. Films these days seem to be quite depressing and filled with violence, love scenes and over-the-top CGI. I don't really see how you can do that with Knight Rider as Michael was a nice guy who disliked violence and the show seemed to be about hope for a better world...
They've already made movies out of The A Team, The Dukes of Hazzard, Miami Vice, 21 Jump Street...I hear that MacGyver is being turned into a movie too...it's probably only a matter of time before Knight Rider goes ahead. :(
In my opinion, most good ideas have been used and abused.

Whoops...sorry about that long rant!!

I'm 110% against a Knight Rider movie. Dumbest freaking idea ever in my opinion. I'm sure it will rank right up there with the Dukes of Hazzard, Bewitched, Miami Vice, A-Team, Starsky and Hutch, The Brady Bunch, Charlie’s Angels, 21 Jump Street, The Beverly Hillbillies, Car 54, Where Are You?, The Honeymooners, The Three Stooges, Lost in Space, Wild Wild West, and so on. Millions upon millions of dollars in tv shows turned into bad unmemorable films. Some so bad they even got sequels with Tom Green. Not the KR Tom Green either, I mean the one that got fingered. That money could have went to much better projects. Hollywood please just walk away.

Actualy 21 jumpstreet was kind of comedy movie but they said the movie was a success that they already working on a sequel. And miami vice wasnt really a success but I feel the movie was a excellent updated version.

IDK, I know TKR sucked "aka beast wars in my opinion" The only thing wrong with KR08 was everything but the car. I'd say they should give it a shot, will it be a decent KR movie? probably not but perhaps if it makes more kids a fan of knight rider, then they start watching the originals. we may get more merchandise and scale models thus the bigger fan base, BTW I've heard rumors of the script of the new KR movie that KITT will be converted to a diesel for emissions reasons, can anyone prove it false? thanks for reading my opinion. :kitt:

Part of me agrees with you and the title of this thread and part of me disagrees.

I agree with you because it will most likely be either a really bad movie or very mediocre. I have a large collection of movies and none of them were originally a TV series except for Star Trek and Get Smart. They just can't get the movies right.

I somewhat disagree with you because I can't help but want to see Knight Rider live on in one form or another on either TV or the big screen. I love the Knight Rider concept and think it deserves to be current. I would rather it live on in TV land but NBC is full of idiots and blew it! I wish NBC would sell the rights to it. Also, while the Dukes movie was bad, it had a couple of really good moments because of some awesome non-CGI stunts - maybe there's hope they will put some good stunts in a KR movie. So I still have some hope, mostly unrealistic, that they can actually make a decent KR movie.

i do agree that movies from tv series made into movies hasn't really did to well these days, but in my opinion i cant be against the kr movie.Just because alot of tv shows made into movies been screwing up the franchise doesn't mean kr is going to flop. If NBC owned the rights to kr movie i would have 100% agree but From last i herd but NBC has really nothing to do with the movie rights of kr so We don't know whats going to happen if the movie comes out and what direction its going to go.But if it does lets just hope it doesn't be a comedy spoof or something really stupid like go a whole different direction for example by not making kitt talk to make the franchise worse.Come on people just because alot of tv shows made into movies been screwing up their franchise doesn't mean kr is going to flop lets just give the kr motion picture a chance.

I've been thinking a lot about this as well, and here are a couple points to consider.

Nothing will change the KR we grew up with. If they make the movie a flop, are we going to feel any differently about the original series? I doubt it.

If the movie turns out a storytelling success, more people will look up the original, but even moreso, we fans will have another body of hopefully canon-worthy work to discuss.

If KR turns into a laughing stock, it couldn't be any worse than the Trekkies, which still bring enough attention to an old franchise to keep new versions being made.

And who knows, maybe they might just nail it. Maybe we will all be amazed at how they pulled it off despite the odds of getting it all wrong. Victory against seemingly insurmountable odds...kinda has a KR flavor to it, no?

SOME OF THE ORIGINAL CAST form the Dukes walked out of the theaters as I heard told & even the A-Team flik tanked... Mr.T was not amused....Hell even the really bad "lost in Space" movie sucked compared to the 1st season & a half -of the original show....I walked out on that. the revamped KR was so Viper-like it stalled from the pilot. PLZ do not do a movie ! oh, Miami Vice just plain sucked. ditto for the Green Hornet....Remember all the failed hype behind the Matthew Brodrick G'zilla failure....need I say more ....

A Team Movie
About the A Team movie i agree with you about the movie did suck but to be honest i herd Mr. T was mad because they ask him for a cameo apperance he replied that he wanted to only play himself.although he talked down on the movie but didn't even see it at that moment.

Miami Vice Movie
The movie did not do to well as of box office sales but it was a great update to the original series.

Not all movie remakes or tv shows from 70's or 80s did flop
1.Batman 1989,Batman Begins,The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises all was a success
2.Man of steal was a success
3. 21 jumpstreet must of been a success because they casting a sequel right at this moment
4.Superman with christopher reeves was a success
5.Spiderman must of been a success because a few sequels followed

Just because a bunch of movies flop before don't mean kr will flop.its about how the direction they take the movie now i will agree 100 per cent if they try to make kr a spoof movie,or if they tried what they was trying to do before by saying that they didn't want kitt to talk. but as long as they keep it like a dark kr updated without trying to spoof the movie then maybee we will have a box office success. we can't just boycott the kr movie just because of few other movies that flopped in the past.

LUV the Keaton batman, Superman ( C.reeve-rip ) and Spiderman, FF Avengers, Thor, Captain America & even the 1st Ghost Rider flick...tho the hulk movies sucked totally ( cinematic optical, etc reasons ) and all the 'trek flix that hit success were good....Hopefully...if KR is to be given the movie treatment, they will keep some solid continuities--unlike the 2nd KR series which seriously failed. recently I did see a t/a that someone has as a daily driver & it is the last model design...the owner did take the time to get the bodypkge/color right & did put in a good looking amber KR scanner light-led ALMOST LOOKS STOCK & tis wired into the alarm system too so while parked, it --- scans.......the car looks DAMN good !

to be honest for the 2008 series in my opinion i blame NBC for trying to add FBI to the stoyrline and not staying to the base like T.O.S. and not involving the hoff as a devon miles character.

I CONCUR....on a side note...I wrote 2 KR stories...1 got trashed with my cmpter & the other -a follow-up-variation/sequel took just under 3 yrs to write-I took my time, created a few characters from real life & wrote in cameos by other t.v./movie franchises ( wrote a neat lil disclaimer, tip of the hat to them all as well) & it was a blast writing it ! tho it is steep deep in KR realm...the KI3 does not exist in it tho I brought back KARR-a newer version but stuffed him into a Camaro Berlinetta (1982-1985),slightly modified too to reflect the variance. he is still the same basic KARR but his program issues were fixed-for the most part....

I thought the A-team movie was fantastic. From what I recall Mr. T and murdoch were against it because they said it was too violent. Mr. T actually kills the bad guy in the movie.

Think about this. Knight Rider will get exposed to a brand new audience. these kids today are not going to pick up a dvd and watch 84 episodes of Knight rider. A good movie might get them interested in it though.

When people hear knight rider they think one thing. Black Trans Am. That's it. It is embeded in our minds. When I told people I work with about KR 08 first words out their mouth nearly every time was, Is it a trans am?

I feel for this movie to be successful. it needs to be a new concept yet have a connection and even a passing of the torch so to speak from the original. Not just a cameo from the HoFF. That dident do squat for KR08 Even give our kitt one last ski mode and turbo boost just for the old school fans. Maybe even allow Kitt to sacrifice himself so that the hero and new Kitt can ride another day.

We have to be realistic and realize that they are not going to invest batman kinda money into this movie. Our best hope is it can take off like a fast and furious franchise.

Aren't we talking about the Glen A. Larson movie script??? If -anyone- can make a KR movie work, it would be the originator of the -real series- and writer of Knight of the Phoenix.

I've always stated that TKR was an overblown fan fiction that scored a budget. Besides, it was the reboot to KR2010. Fun to watch. But, merely a pale imitation, production line model.

Kr2010 was...a court case that only won the words Knight and Rider.

Which rewinds to KR2000. And, let's face it, I winced on the original running of that.

As for KR2008. Did that thing ever figure out where it's tongue was suppose to end and the cheek even started at??? And, it had such potential, too...that was the crime of it all.

However, what do all these reincarnations lack? Glen A. Larson. And, let's face it. If a new generation Michael Long were to turbo boost into orbit with the 21'st century KITT to have a laser fight with Buck Rodgers, you'd believe it and you'd love it.

Bd Bd Bd Bd Bd Bd Bd Bd Bd Bd Bd- oops I think we just shot a vehicle from your era, Buck !

I watched the pilot & a few episodes and all that crept thru my brain was the lax of being "new" & the over borrowing from "Viper" and the really, REALY bad movie "Mega-force"...! A "Foundation" /corp...a spacial estate & support staff in a casual looking semi---support/mobile base, is more believable than the 08 fiasco was. (2 spm episodes aside ) even to this day.

I believe the movie could do good....only if whoever writes the storyline sees the faults of the sequels/spinoffs. No James Bond clone, no Transforming to 26 vehicles, no Rico Suave KITT voice. No adult only theme, no crappy CGI, no 5+ team members , no low budget effects, no lame cameos, no Bonnie Suited team, no futuristic setting, No heavy government involvement. No straying too far from its roots. No Drama overshadowing the Action.... with a pinch of comedy. A Knight Rider worth seeing.

lets just thank god nbc/universal don't own the movie rights lol. because if they did it would've been no chance of the movie being a success.
