Kenner Voice car revamp

Ok I know there are gonna be a few people that are gonna go "OMG WTF is he doing!?!?!?!?!?!" But I wanted to make more of this car than Kenner made it to be. My work has started with priming and painting the outer shell, that is still going on as I type this. I also did some work on the dash, here's a pic of a test sticker fit I did. I added the pod switch panel and cut a voice modulator to fit where it's supposed to be (more or less lol) After painting is done, a functional scanner will be installed (already have the kit, just need to solder it and fabricate a scanner lens) The dash is still a WIP.

Wow awesome job.One recomendation ,if you can reprint the dash and leave more black are on the right side of the monitors, you can continuouslycut smaller slivers to make it exactly the right size as not to show any overlapping. Also it might be my imagination but the modulator looks like it was cut crookedly not straight on each side.Good job on getting the right look between the button pods and the angle of where the meters under the monitor are supposed to be.Very accurate. Will you be putting a tiny red dot for the knight logo on the steering wheel?

Can't wait to see the outer body with working scanner. One thing I've noticed all voice cars were missing on the outside were the yellow and red turn signal lights on the side of the cars. Will you be adding those? Will you also be cutting the lines from the top of the t-top and adding tinted glass?

Hey Knight Racer, yup gonna gonna do the knight logo on the wheel too :) already redid the dash and did the lower console and glossed it over. The scanner was cut a little crooked but it was just a test fit with temp stickers. And thanks for the compliments!! The side marker lights are going to be painted on this model and the plastic way too fragile to do the t-tops (near 30 years of age doesn't bode plastic well lol)

Your welcome.By the way,are you planning on painting over the knight 2000 red letters on the doors?I never liked seeing that on something that was supposed to look like kitt from the show.He never had that on his doors. It was a sleek black trans am with a ton of incredible secrets to show off.It wasn't meant to advertise to the world top secret supercar here with a designation.

Oh yes, the nasty "Knight 2000" was one of the first things I used solvent to remove before painting the doors, I NEVER liked that. will post exterior shots soon.

For those of you who don't know what the original dash looked like that came with the voice car.The meters don't look right, too many mode buttons,no button pods of voice modulator. So far,big upgrade You will noptice how they could have easily had room for the voice modulator but they left it out.

Will the interior have added equipment like overhead console with switches, door trims to feature the same colour as the seats, more sporty seats, t-bar insted of a pistol grip and possible speaker grilles in the "B" pillars? What about exterior mirror glass?

A chlorine pool (AKA Junkyard Dog) is not a nice place to park KITT either - I learnt this from my brother in 1985.

@OZKNIGHT1985 I will be painting the inside of the doors to match the interior trim yes, and be putting deals on the seats for a PDM fakeout. I will also be putting mirror stickers on the rear-views and will try to make decal for the overhead console. The shifter on KITT isn't a "t-shifter" tho its an "egg" shifter (which I will also try and reproduce with greenstuff.

Had to redo the paint on the body, so pics will be posted as soon as I slap a couple of coats of clear coat on it.

Hey all, well paint is dry, scanner installed and voice car option repaired, all that is left is some detail work on the inside of the doors and marker lights! I had to get a second KRVC due to the windshield being beyond repair (the body was trashed but it did come with a Michael figure lol) Still not fully finished but CLOSE! As promised, pics and a short vid!

Thanks taoworm, the hardest part was the body painting, after building up my Hitari kitt, this was actually relaxing lol it still needs bait of work on the touchups but it's all about the car and the love of it. That makes it all worth while :-)

That is one mighty fine KITT there. How does the lights in the front work? Will you look to adding tail lights in the future?

a great way to do the side marker lights (on the sides of the fenders) is bare metal foil sold in most hobby stores. you cut out a small piece a tad bigger than the marker, using a dull pointed but fine tip surface shape the foil around the marker till it sticks out by itself, then use a hobby knife to trim off the excess foil. then use paint for the yellow and red, I prefer Tamyia paints as they have a great clear yellow and red when applied over a chrome base look VERY nice. now if you do not want to do the foil route, use a chrome like paint Testors has a color called Chrome Silver Trim that I use for things like door handles and for painting on the back side of clear parts like head and tails to make them look real. just paint the raised marker with the silver paint, let dry a few days then apply the clear yellow and red paint over them, good luck!

:good:

I forgot to put this in my first post, not sure if he is a lurker or a member here but major props and thanks to mightybobo1 (Ebay ID) for selling me his KITT Voice Car, because without it, this project would still be on the proverbial paper :) I hope he approves of what I have done with this piece of his childhood :)
