Knight Rider 2000

Hello all,
Christmas 2010 I was given the complete Knight Rider set (seasons 1-4) in a bg box containing 26 discs. After browsing the episodes I noticed as a bonus feature on one of the discs the movie 'Knight Rier 2000' I've never seen it but I do know it's supposed to be a sequal of the series and was intended to be a backdoor pilot for a new series which didn't make it into production. To be honest I can see why! I decided to watch the movie and got annoyed with it in the first 5 seconds. The music or theme tune? No, secondly the whole storyline is far to pathetic. KITT being dismantled is a huge let down, Devon's death, The voice of the Knight 4000, The 'amazing' special effects, KITT's chip inside an irritating woman, The deer that appears in the Knight 4000's test, Russel Maddock as a whole, KITT's sinking and the pointless use of a police siren. I don't know about anyone else but I'm going to pretend this movie never existed and can't stress enough how annoyed and disappointed I am at the whole thing. Just wondering does anyone else feel the same way?

Hey Sam,

I think you'll find that the vast majority of us feel the same way. That's not to say that it can't be an enjoyable movie though. We just have to take it for what it is, rather than what it should have been.

I myself have great difficulty doing this, so I can only imagine that others will as well, but I have managed to enjoy watching it on a couple of occasions; although come to think of it, I think that was back when most of us in the UK were forced to make do with Channel 5 showing 30 minute versions of the episodes on a weeknight, and ones that cut out most of the physical violence on their weekend morning show, Milkshake.

I heard a lot of tales about this movie like it was rushed, didnt have a "KIFT" till the final days of production, and the Hoff doing this movie without the involvement of Mr. Larson. This shouldve been more action than drama. And at least one Turbo Boost. And yep, I hated that there was no variation of the original theme song. But I did like the "KIFT" design, although I'd rather it have been the classic jet black.

Ah, I like the jet black, I just fail to see how red would be appropriate, I read somewhere it was meant to resemble the Pontiac Banshee concept?

KITT being dismantled is a huge let down, Devon's death, The voice of the Knight 4000, The 'amazing' special effects, KITT's chip inside an irritating woman, The deer that appears in the Knight 4000's test, Russel Maddock as a whole, KITT's sinking and the pointless use of a police siren. I don't know about anyone else but I'm going to pretend this movie never existed and can't stress enough how annoyed and disappointed I am at the whole thing. If it's of any consolation, the Knight 4000 was messed with a hand full of times before it was left to rot somewhere. After Knight Rider it appeared in the reunion movie called CHiPs 99. Shortly after, it was stolen! After the recovery it was featured in only one episode of the TV show Black Scorpion called 'Armed and Dangerous'. As if it wasn't enough it went through yet another agonizing transformation into what could be described as a Police car with sirens only to be featured in the Power Rangers Time Force. It made yet another appearance in Scare Tactics where it was used in crash tests and wreckless driving.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but unless I'm mistaken there is a second Knight 4000 that has gone through some extensive tune up and was auctioned off not too long ago. Can anyone verify this?

So in answer to your post, yes, Knight Rider 2000 was a very ugly continuation of TOS. If you watch the original series and put in mind what will happen a few years after the 4th season it's sad to know how all the things you mention will take place and that's just a recipie for iminent failure. I know this board doesn't care for IMDB.com in terms of reliability but for what it's worth if you look at TOS, it has a score of 7.0 in rating! The remainder attempts of the series are just way below that.

Ah, the ol' 4000 origin: I think they wanted the Banshee concept as KI4T, but Pontiac said no. So they got Jay Ohrberg to make one usin a donated Dodge Stealth. They got a nice facsmile of the Banshee, then used it for the movie. A second 4000 was created for the hydroplane scene, And a unused 4000 (stunt car/convertible mode?) was made as well, but wasn't used.Image

One thing I never got about kr2000 was lets put aside the fact that Michael must have replaced Bonnie as the cybernician of the team since he put together an AI cpu into his car so well as putting in special functions like stunners and barcode scanners into his car,how the hell did he trick the knight 4000 into letting him replace kitt's cpu with kifts? We find him under the nose of the car but don't know how he got him to trust him to do it.

I have an idea for a KR 11 pilot, series: Mike Tracer is a former Ranger, or Green Beret, working as
a private security specialist. Almost killed on a case, is approached by old girlfriend Sara Graiman &
her father, Dr. Charles Graiman. He plans to take control of FLAG, from Russell Maddock, who ran it
in place if the late Devon Miles. The Graimans have built the new KITT, the Knight 3000. They need
Mike to help knock out a criminal organization with ties to Al-Qaeda, and Welther Mulhare is the head of
the expatriates, who ironically still live in the US. Welther tried to kill Mike in Iraq, for blowing the lid off
the treacherous group. The Graimans gain control of FLAG, and Maddock is reduced to resident minion
douchebag, and he gives the crap for it. The Knight 3000 can be either a Mustang or Camaro, maybe
a Kevin Morgan-designed T/A, specially designed for the show. No, not that retardo SPM, but the Attack
Mode, modified.

Wow, some interesting news on the Knight 4000, I remember thiking I saw it in Back to the Future Part 2, while Marty and Doc are in they year 2015, only to check back later and realise it wasn't. To be fair though, it does look futuristic, even to today's standards.

It's too vulgar. I mean the original Kitt was designed to keep a low profile. This one looks like a yacht and how the heck is he going to fit in the car park while Michael runs from a building to another for information. It looks way too much like a concept car and it's not contemporary. I wonder if the guy who designed it ever saw the original series at all? The car was supposed to be black, not red!

Actually your kinda right.
The REAL Banshee was used in Back to the Future 2. You can see it in some of the background scenes.

I am one of the few who LOVED KR2000 and still do.
It was more drama than action and seemed much more mature than the comic book horatio hornblower that was TOS.
But alas I am in a camp of VERY few. lol
