What do you NOT want to see in a KR movie?

Just like Smallville has it's No Flight No Tights rule, what two things do you not want to see in a Knight Rider movie?

Mine would have to be -
No transformations
No Silly red Wedge car ( like in Knight 2000 movie)

Let's see....

SPM.
Anything that relates to Vodoo Knight or TKR
I wouldn't mind transformations, as long they are subtle and used appropriately, similar to the SG Pilot.
NO submarine mode!!!
NO cars that transform into 18 foot bipedal robots!! (That image of SG KARR still makes me face-palm)

That's pretty much it...for now.

I think a shapeshifting car of the future could work, if done right. No Hasselhoff.

I don't want to see Fan Boy influence.

I don't want to see over reliance of continuity

In no order:

1. No *?$#/transforming car, like V.I.P.E.R. or that crappy cancelled KR08 series.

2. No "son" who inherits his father's car and position, or son in general. Please no. It's bad enough Indy got one. And if for even a split second I hear a rumor Bonnie is the mother, so help me...

3. No overly fancy, poitlessly sleek, idstracting, and bulleye/easily spotted (by criminals) car.

4. No retconning to make the film work.

5. No shoving in of passed villains, like Garth, just for the hell of it (plots should have reason, not fan pleasin').

6. No army of K.I.T.T. clones with wisecracking, like TKR.

7. No shakycam shots.

8. No pointless big explosions.

9. No distracting CGI for the heck of CGI. I think an entire KR film could be made with little CGI.

10. No crappy composers like Brian Tyler, Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt, so forth. Don Peake and Stu Philips are still alive, and I think Peak -- in particular -- could pull off a KR film score with some modern approach.

11. No directors or producers who've made crappy films, or were involved in crappy films, like the Fast&Furious crap-chise, Michael Bay films, so forth.

12. No time travel.

13. Nobody but Daniels for K.I.T.T..

14. No wise cracking sidekicks. In fact, no side kicks period. Though a brief appearence by R.C. would be acceptable.

15. No political agendas shoved in.

16. No overt, annoying product placements.

I wouldn't want to see anybody else but the Hoff play Michael Knight, or someone else other than William Daniels providing the voice for KITT. I wouldn't want(or accept)anything but an American car to be KITT. I wouldn't have a problem with KI3T teaming up with KITT, or having Michael Knight teaming up with his son-in fact, that would be cool!! :kitt: :kittside: :dash: :dash4:

17. No refereces or appearences by characters from the failed spin-off series.

18. No techno music. No rap music. I nfact, the film should be prodominently score based, with little song use.

1. The tone of the movie needs to be done like Batman Begins. I know this is an over used concept right now,but it was very well done.
2. The source material needs to be taken secirous.
3. Karr needs to be addressed. He is the first. And should probably be the main villan. Also Garth needs to be addressed. He could also be the franchise villan. A spoiled rich kid full of anger and resentment toward his dogood father.
4. Mike Knight needs to be the other side of Garth. Selfless and wants to make a difference in the world.Once he meets Wilton and Devon.
5. Kitt needs to be an American car. I once read Glenn Larson say it was a modern take on Cowboy and his horse/side kick. Now that they dont make trans am anymore the logical choice is the Mustang. It is very iconic and purely American. The 2010 super snake would be cool. I also think the corvette would be cool.
6. A great cast. Mike Knight played by Josh Dumell.
7.Devon Miles played by Liam Nesson
8.Garth Played by Timothy Olophant
9.And car chases like we have never seen before.
10. It also needs to retain the fun and spirit of the show. A guy a cool car helping people.

Michael Knight is a guy in his early to mid 30's. Any younger, and he wouldn't be credible. And older really really doesn't make any sense. Do you really want a 50ish crime fighter running and battling? We all know 50 is the new 40, but seriously, really? Unless for whatever reason, it's decided that this movie would be continuation from the series in real time. I for one don't want that.

I want a new retcon, the basic facts retold in 21st Century time. I think it would be fascinating telling the story of making a character who doesn't exist, in this era of Google Earth, cameras all over the place, facial recognition, etc. Think about the ramifications of pulling up Michael Knight and getting...nothing. There has to be something, right? A totally automated vehicle capable of independent thought, based upon the preservation of human life, particularly Michael Knight's. That is still something that doesn't exist. If the writers can make the partnership bloom within 2 1/2 hrs, then the technology doesn't really matter.

The make of the car shouldn't matter one iota. Ultimately, KITT is KITT. You need a vehicle that can play the part. There have been some Japanese and European vehicles that could be KITT. Yes, it would be a boon to a real automaker if they could secure the rights, but then you also run the same risk that Pontiac did, and then having that automaker turn against the filmmakers. The customizers would not like it if it was a custom built vehicle, that couldn't be copied. KITT is a one of a kind vehicle, that should be very special, one that should be very hard to duplicate. I'm not saying that customizers couldn't find ways to make a KITT copy, but it should be something that would make it very hard to do.

I don't think you'd be seeing MK JR or KI3T in the movie. They simply wouldn't exist, as you would have to pay NBC Universal for the licensing rights to those characters, adding cost to the budget.

I also think that fans need to be open minded, because the more accessible the movie is to movie fans that are not KR fans, the better it would be for KR fans. It's gotta be something that not just KR fans can point out. Worldwide, I'll give you that there is a huge fan base, but it needs to make economic sense the decisions of what will and won't be in a movie made to make money.

None else playing knight other than the HOFF. No teenager sexual themes as in the recent show. No CGI. I would rather them use models than cgi for some of the stunts. I would like atleast a short appearance by RC3, Bonnie. The Hoff will wear the same leather jacket and some tight jeans like he did in the original. I dont want the plot to be michael and kitt versus some huge villians trying to blow up the universe. I want it to be like it was when michael was out to help the small people in small towns with their problems. No government involvement or missions. Another race being sabatoged or group of biker thugs would be good adversaries. No transformations or internal engine shots. The only thing I would accept would be SPM. Plenty of turbo boosts which are real and not cgi.

19. "Knight Rider 2000" -- never happened. Devin died sometimes from the end of the sries, to the new movie.

20. Obviously The Hoff is too old to portray a spunky, crime-fighting a$$ kicker, so there will need to be somebody to help. Maybe sort of a Rocky 5 thing where Hoff realizes he's too old for this and he just can't do it, and he mentors someone who can. And that mentoree, better be GOOD at acting and not just some famous person. In fact, an unknown would be prefferable.

Man - WiBoomer1 really got it in one. Nice job, dude.

Many old fans basically want to see the old Knight Rider television show, but on a large screen, with popcorn and stadium seating. It doesn't work that way - the old TV show simply doesn't translate to a movie format without some changes. Nobody will want to see a movie that feels like it's an episode of a TV show.

One of the prime reasons that KR doesn't translate well to a movie format is its storytelling. I mean, we all love to see Michael Knight saving the day in a small town, or helping some mother and her child, but do you really want to pay 7+ dollars to see that in a movie? The plot and premise has to be bigger to match the method and the budget. A movie plotline could contain many elements of the show, yes, but you can't really have a movie where Michael chases some small-time villains in an advanced piece of technology. Audiences won't buy that.
I agree with this. It's actually a really cool idea that a non-government organization would be able to make a person pretty much disappear - they would have the funds, manpower, and intelligence to create something that still hasn't been done. It's also pretty cool that they tried before to do the same thing, and the project failed and went rogue. There's a lot of potential here, if fans are willing to step outside what's currently accepted.

WiBoomer is right about the car - KITT is a character. People didn't like the idea of a Mustang as KITT, but honestly, it worked. Not because the car was black, or it was a Ford, or whatever - it worked because he became a character. Hell, KITT could be a black shoebox. It's all about characterization here. Once an audience has made an emotional connection with a character, that's it.

If there is ever a KR movie, it needs to be a reboot of the series. There are a lot of really cool possibilities here to make this appeal to the audience of today - but really, the last thing that people will want to see on the silver screen is David Hasselhoff driving an old Pontiac with technology from the 80s. There's a reason they didn't make Star Trek with the old actors and original models. An 80s KR film with Hasselhoff would either be direct-to-DVD or a TV movie.

Okay lets see.
1. KITT who has no personallity, a bit like the new KITT, he is more a computer than a person, but funny ^^^.
2. The Hoff, he was great in the 80s but with the money he would earn he would buy alcohol.
3. KITT in a car like an Audi TT or a New Betle or something like this.
4. KITT with a female voice.
5. A fat guy as driver of KITT.
6. Destoyable KITT.
7. No KITT xD
8. Something like an evil KITT who is working for evil guys.
9. KITT without Turbo Boost.
10. Slow KITT.
11. A movie without anything of knight rider but with the title.

What was the vehicle shown above?

and thanks for the props Lunchmeat. The majority of fans don't see the forest for the trees. It's not that David Hasslehoff isn't appreciated by me. If it's possible to tie him into the movie somehow, to get him a cameo, something, then I'm all for it. If you disregard KR 08 the series, the pilot movie was able to get him in creditably, even though it still didn't make much sense how he had a kid that was that old.

I can see the KR movie for what it is, reintroducing the public to the characters, get them to care about the characters, which should be the main focus, not the technology. If you can make people buy into the relationship between KITT and Michael Knight, and have the action that is needed to warrant people paying money to see the action, then it'll work big time. Time will tell if the A-Team movie works...I think if that plays out, then there's more of a chance for our movie to come out.

I have to agree with WIBoomer1. The film will have to appeal to the MASS market to be a hit and continue on as a franchise, so some things may have to be changed. But, I hope it's nothing major and not very many of them. What would I NOT want to see in a Knight Rider movie?
1)KITT any other color than black.
2)Not too much CGI. I want to watch a movie, not a PS3 game.

In a film? I do not want it to have anything to do with the new series, when I was younger I was all hung up on this but I'm completely burnt out. It's time to just face the facts that the original series is in the past and in the past is where it will and should stay because all the powers that be will do is **** it up.

At least with a fresh start there's a bit more leeway since next to NOTHING from the original has to be relied upon aside from some very basic things. I don't was a pushing 60 Hasselhoff or his ego anywhere near it, that ship has sailed, gone out to sea and was sunk with the death of KR08. I wouldn't mind a William Daniels cameo maybe has a head scientist or something but he shouldn't be the voice of a new KITT simply because not only is it bad business given his advanced age but because it'll be detrimental to the film in that it has to in a sense, make you forget about the original series while you watch it. I want a voice that not only fits the AI's personality but its body too.

I also do not want to see an overbearing corporate interference in the production of it. Though the chances of that happening are slim, still better than the series however since the budget should allow them to not need to rely upon selling cars as much.

1) I don't want to see an import as KITT.
2) I don't want the Knight Rider Movie or series to be just a glorifide car commercial, just build a new KITT like the
Batman movies featured a car that was fabricated and built instead of relying on some car company to provide a car.
3) No "Nano tech" rebuilding garbage or cars that turn into Transformers or other vehicles like S.U.V.'s

I don't get this. According to Wikipedia, DH is just shy of 60 and Justin B is 30. The characters they played would not be far off from that. Why couldn't Micheal Knight have a son at the age of thirty or late 20s?

Also, why would so many people want DH to play Michael Knight and William Daniels to voice KITT(as the same Trans Am?)? Some idiot said he should wear the same leather jacket and tight jeans. Why would a dying Wilton Knight want a 60-year-old man to drive a 1980s car to make a difference for five years before retiring at 65? And William Daniels' voice is not what it used to be. His voice recordings for the KR GPS navigation sound like Bea Arthur. If a KR movie is made and is successful at all, it's going be all different, like the new Star Trek.

What? Hans Zimmer is crappy composer? Are you serious?

Anyway here is my whishlist;

- Movie must be real story,I mean more than "one man can make difference" theme but wihtout save the world from bad terrorist.

- No fake chase scenes like 08 KR.Knight Rider needs real action like bourne ultimatum&supremacy films.

- please stop "KR İS SUPER AWSUM VEHICLE IT DOES EVERYTHING!" idea.God's sake no more nanomachines.

- I like the transform but SPM,attack mode or whatever you call it should be less differences than normal mode like 08 plot.

- Detailed gadget desing; If there is a gadgets like grapling hook, arrows, missiles or etc.please make a real ones and they should be appear different places.Don't put everything front or stupid places like engine position like 08 kr did.

- No ricer stuff; PLEASE NEVER,EVER MAKE A LAMBO DOORS OR BLUE NEON LIGTHS AGAIN.IT'S JUST STUPID.

- Don't put visiual stuffs front window, hood or any other stupid place.God's sake please make a screen and buttons.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Been busy with real work, etc...

The point I was trying to make is KR 08 didn't need to make the driver of KI3T be Michael Knight's son. There should have been another way to get someone to be KI3T's pilot. By using that cheesy plot device to carry on the family name/tradition, it just gummed up the works.

Would not want to see.

Patricia McPherson (sorry if I spelt that wrong) in a bikini
Kitt to run on eco friendly fuel
Any tree hugging hippy eco friendly message.. .. Kitt is kick ass and so what if he puts outa few fumes.
Do not use John Barris to design cars. Sorry but I feel his SPM was total pants and his designs are out dated.
No product placement that ties the producers to use one car manufacturer like ford. The car of the future is not a crappy ford.
Do not want to see a lack of buttons. Kitt should look futuristic just like he did in the 80s. This means buttons to press and gadgets to play with. Must have turbo boost button. Also bring back gull wing steering wheel and LED indicators on accellerator.
Do not want to see manual gear shift from an auto box like in KR 2008 pilot.
Do not ever want to see that transformer crap. Kitt is a particular car and has a unique look. DO not change it.
DO not let GST produce it like he did with KR08
Must have a good strong plot and do not rely on CGI, needless explosions (mythbusters proved that cars do not easily explode as they do in movies). Do not just use big names, find decent actors that can play the rols properly.
Do no cast main characters who have never seen the entire 80s series.

I'd like to provide a little bit of counterpoint here. Not nit-picking, just another point of view:
-I agree that KITT should not be 'built with the environment in mind', but the car of the future is bound to be much more efficient than today's cars.
-I agree with the product placement. KITT shouldn't be linked to one manufacturer unless the body is made to blend in with other cars on the road. Say, instead of making KITT out of a Chevy Camaro.....make KITT resemble the Camaro to avoid detection. BTW, there's nothing wrong with Ford.
-The interior should be updated in a similar way as the bridge of the Enterprise was updated in JJ Abrams Star Trek. I'm not saying have everything like the iBridge, but things such as seen in Iron Man's house (transparent computer screens, etc)
-I wouldn't mind a manual transmission. I think it would make Michael more engaged in the driving experience. Let's face it...having KITT drive everywhere in auto mode is kinda boring. It takes the excitement out of seeing KITT drive himself when Michael's not in him.
-Solid plot is a must! Glen Larson's had lots of time to perfect the script so I trust him to bring his vision of Knight Rider to reality.
