Turbo Boosting Batmobile

Post by Michael Pajaro » Thu Nov 04, 2004 1:10 pm

We've heard before that the Batmobile in the new Batman movie will have sort of a "turbo boost" feature. This month's Rolling Stone gives some specs on the car..."it can jump 6 feet vertically and 40 feet horizontally. It has to get up to 220mph to get airborne" says producer Charles Rovan.

Six vertical feet? KITT's got nothing to worry about.

(Edit: The car is officially called "The Tumbler" but I think people will still refer to it as the Batmobile.)

The Tumbler? Are they crazy? How could they make a Batman movie and change the name of the Batmobile?

Bah, just hope they recover some dignity after the trash that was the lst few films. Should be good though as its based on Frank Millers books.

Anyway, sounds like the "tumbler" (grrr!) was designed to go further than higher....athough 6 feet doesn't sound like much elevation to travel that distances. It'll never clear a truck but should easily fly over cars....not sure about SUV's?

Since the movie is a prequel as in showing the origin of Batman, I presume it will be set in the past? Most likely a somewhat old fashioned setting maintaining a timeless effect; in other words, no specific time. If I'm correct then SUVs or more modern vehicles won't exist yet. Also, if that is the case, they should be careful of the "Tumbler"'s capabilities because it won't hold much water knowing down the line new Batmobiles will be built that can't do as much in terms of features.

On a side note, the "Tumbler" looks more like a tank than a Batmobile. The only similar characteristics are its color and the turbine flame exhaust. I do think it looks cool, however.

it's not a prequel, it's a total restart of the franchise, starting with the origins of batman.

so i think batty starting with something as primitive as the tumbler, is a good idea.

i loved the first batman film but what happened after that?!?! and this new one looks awful so far, but i will reserve judgement. the tumbler is awful looking though!

i think i'll stick to the animated series!

No worse looking than the car from Knight Rider 2010 in your icon, knightendo! Just kidding! I've got an open mind about the movie. Any Batman movie going in a different direction than Batman Forever and Batman & Robin can't be bad!

"The Tumbler" is a military vehicle developed by Wayne Enterprises. And since it tells the origin of Batman, this vehicle precedes any official Batmobile.

that makes more sense when you word it that way :) but i still think they should be predating this movie before the original batman instead of doing "a smallville" by the sounds of it, and just starting it again from scratch and ignoring the timeline of the originals.
