An Interesting Idea For A Knight Replica...

Post by The Real Michael Knight » Sun Jan 04, 2004 3:46 am

I was wondering if anyone has ever built a replica of KITT, but in his SPM configuration? Imagine driving down town with your KITT replica looking like your in SPM.

Well now that would be interesting to see if someone manages to successfully complete such a feat.

I would want an operationally one. So I could pull up to some import, go into SPM, and still have a nice 350 under the hood to take care of some business.

Oh yeah, and a camera to record the other drivers face for posterity.

Somebody in the UK are making the SPM KITT, but I can't remember the web page... The page includes photos of the car with the SPM hood and other gadgets installed in... The guy says in the page that they have problems with the hydraulics...

I remember seeing that site.

I imagine it has to be tough. The original car had no engine so they had a space to stick all the hydraulic stuff.

It's Knight Rider UK and it's Rob Pearson's project.

I wonder how long they've been working on it.

Rob Peason aka knight2000 is currently making one a reality. Knight Rider UK has a page about the progress and you can find out more info about it there:

Outside of the rear wing, (because it goes so high and probably weighs a bit) I don't think any of the SPM wing extensions really need the hydraulics. I bet some cleaver mechanics and motors no larger then those for wiper blades could do the job.

^^Yeah, I bet it would be eassier to make today than it was in 1985.

I still think a project like this would be a great project for Moster Garage :)

Ooh, good idea! Speaking of icon cars of the '80s, did you see the one where they attempted to make a DeLorean into a hovercraft? Jesse James seemed PO'ed the entire episode, and I got the impression that he really hates DeLoreans!

That would be priceless.

Actually Jesse defiles a 3rd gen Firebird in the Christmas episode. He literally strips it to the floor pan to make a Christmas float out of it.

The Delorean one is my favorite! It's the only one where someone gets kicked off the build team :)

Actually, I believe Jesse only thought the IDEA of working on a DeLorean was stupid (Anyone remember the PT Cruiser/Chipper episode?). The DeLorean was never well renowned for anything except its appearance in "Back to the Future", IMHO. AND it should be noted that once that guy walked off of the build and they got the project back on track, Jesse actually got pretty excited about it and wanted to see it succeed.
