2006: Knight Rider year in review

Post by Michael Pajaro » Tue Dec 12, 2006 11:15 pm

Although we still didn't get our movie, it was another pretty big year for Knight Rider. Here are some of the milestones we saw over the past 12 months, please add the many things I'm sure I missed.

January
Universal launches the "Sleuth" network featuring Knight Rider. It begins as a standard definition channel, than later adds an HDTV tier.
Knight Rider Season 3 released on DVD. There were some problems with the sound effects, but Universal later re-released an improved set.

February
Seasons 1 & 2 are available for download on iTunes.

April
Benchwarmers arrives in theaters, featuring Jon Lovitz as a grown-up geek with his own KITT replica.
The fourth and final season is released on DVD.
KITT appears in an AT&T Commercial with other famous talking machines including Robbie the Robot and WOPR from WarGames.

May
In the biggest news of the year, The Weinstein Company announced it acquired the rights to bring Knight Rider to the big screen. David Hasselhoff's name is noticeably absent from the press release.

July
Hasselhoff's campy music video "Jump in My Car" with KITT becomes a small internet phenomenon.

August
David Hasselhoff is a judge on the surprise summer hit America's Got Talent; a stripper performs on stage with a KITT replica, dancing to the Knight RIder theme music.
Patricia McPherson returns to the Knight Nationals replica convention in Ohio.

September
Knights of the Phoenix (West Coast) hosts a car show at the Saugus Raceway, home of "Slammin' Sammy's Stunt Show Spectacular." Rebecca Holden makes an appearance.
David Hasselhoff releases his Autobiography "Making Waves".

Hi, I agree with being a big year for Knight Rider, so here's what else happened in 2006:
January 2006:D. Hasselhoff filed for divorce, but unfortunately, it was an all-too public divorce.
Still, he attends friend Lou Rawls' funeral.
The official release month of the 3rd season DVD of "Knight Rider"
February 2006: The winter Olympics.
The third season DVD of "Knight Rider" is released(actually I got my copy of the 3rd season DVD that month)
March 2006:D. Hasselhoff spends time with daughters on spring break in Hawaii
April 2006:I first see D. Hasselhoff's fun video, "Jump in My Car" via Nat Marshall's DH fan website
The 4th season DVD set of "Knight Rider" is released
May 2006: DH is at the "American Idol" finale with a good friend
DH attends a Dallas basketball game to see NBA star Dirk Nowitzki(a fan of DH's music)
D.Hasselhoff is announced a judge for "America's Got Talent"
June 2006:
D. Hasselhoff's film "Click" is released
D. Hasselhoff is a guest on the "View"
He also shows up on the "Today" show, but then gets disrespect from Soledad O'Brien while he's doing an interview, but he puts her in her place.
He also, unfortunately gets into a shaving accident while in London toward the end of the month, hence the arm brace.
The video to the song "Secret Agent Man" is released as part of a James Bond marathon DH himself is hosting.
DH attends the US "Click" movie premiere with his daughters and other people from his family, plus former "Baywatch" co-star Jeremy Jackson.
July 2006:D.Hasselhoff turns 54, and looks quite well, considering his personal situation.
DH visits the "Tonight Show w/Jay Leno" and tells a hilarious story about his shaving accident.
DH also does a radio interview wth Ryan Seacrest
DH's divorce is finalized. 'Nuff said!
August 2006:
A screwy burlesque performance with KITT is shown on "America's Got Talent", and DH gives a funny critique, while I agree with Brandy that the lady didn't have real talent.
Fortunately, the next night, DH himself did a great job performing "Jump in My Car" with KITT, still a better use of KITT on the show.
September 2006:
DH goes to England to promote his book "Making Waves" in England, and a segment of that is shown on "Ent. Tonight"
later that month.
He also attends the British and Spanish "Click" movie premieres.
DH is featured in a People Magazine article
October 2006:
DH's daughter Hayley gets scratched by a cat, hence the media being all over her like a cheap suit.
DH releases his "Jump in My Car" single in the UK
November 2006:DH moves into a new home located near his daughters' school.
DH gets the role of a flamboyant musical director in the Las Vegas production of "The Producers"
December 2006:DH gets a Big Comeback award on the Big in 2006 awards.
I'm glad DH made a comeback to the U.S. spotlight, albeit a bittersweet return.
Hopefully 2007 will be a better year for DH personally.
Folks, I know this is a long message, so please bear with me, OK?

When was "Making Waves" released? I thought the book was out sometime in 2006, too.

2 questions, 1, is there any footage from this years Nationals with McPherson?

2, is there a clip of that Knight Rider America's Got Talent thing? No, I'm interested because it's a stripper, I'm jsut curious to see his response.

cloudkitt,

I don't think that anyone has posted any video from the 2006 Nationals on the internet yet, but there are plenty of photos available on my website:

I know that there are more photos out there, so if anyone has more, please post them.

GORGEOUS set of cars!

Anyone bring a K.A.R.R. to the show? Or any of the shows? Just curious as I know there were a few that were thinking of or may have made a K.A.R.R. but that car is often quite rare.

Hi, Fuzzie Dice, DH's book was released in the UK in September 2006, hence the book tour that he did there this year.
Also, DH had gone to Texas to see Dirk Nowtzki in person and he was interviewed there, too, via TNT, during the said NBA basketball game.
