Knight Rider model kit

Post by ramon88us » Thu Apr 20, 2006 11:05 pm

Have any of you built the KITT model kit from AMT? If so does it have details on the dashboard? I have built the KIFT model kit and seemed nice.

I built one 2 years ago. It has details on the dash. You can also get decals to put on the dash instead of painting it.

Thats a nice KIFT, the only problem i have with the reissue of the Knight 4000 car is that is uses CORVETTE promo wheels/tires.

here is a pic of mine based on the Original isue. If you ever want to find an original issue on eBay look for the one with the GREY box, reissue is in a BLUE box  .

I think both the original and reissue of the Ertl K.I.T.T. models had flaws. I believe the original came with tinted windows. Parts had to be swapped between both versions for accuracy. And I think it also doesn't include the side fender vents. It seems they can get it right, only we have to buy multiple versions and make our own.

yeah the only TRUE correct KITT model is the early issue from MPC, but make sure its the oen that has the GOLDEN WHEELS promotion. That KITT model will have the proper front fender vents. The 2nd issue of KITT which comes in an IDENTICAL box to the 1st issue but it has in place of the golden wheels promotion a yellow box that says look for more of AMT/Ertl and MPC kits at your local hobby store. Other than the fact that its missing the fender vents, its IDENTICAL to the 1st issue. The current issue is the same as the second isue except that is molded in grey plastic, and the ttops and front/rear 'glass' is clear instead of smoked. That and they dont give you a clear red piece for the rear taillight, and the words TURBO Trans Am and the Trans Am logo are on the sides of the body (first one is on the fender above where the fender vents were, the other is on the rear fender between the side window area and the rear glass). If you have any other KITT model questions, let me know  .

I've got an AMT/ERTL reissue KITT in the works. Actually two of them as I'm making the 3rd season black/silver KARR as well. But I haven't had time to get much past putting the engine halves together and dechroming and preparing the bowling ball hub caps. :( When I do, I'll be posting step-by-step up on my web site.

I have an original issue KIFT to do, too (thank you to Dave to snagging that one for me off eBay ;) ) That I haven't started yet.
