Found an interesting photo of a Suzuki concept car steering wheel.
The photo is from the 2005 Dallas Auto Show.

Nice steering wheel, although it looks like its not designed to be turned around...but only to be banked left and right.

Actually, there was a engineering (or some art) college that has a course in automotive modification (ala streetracers) and a class took their instructor's car and turned it into a single seater vehicle that has a steering wheel that looks more like a rounded version of the above picture. I can't remember the name of the show I saw it on, but it was one Spike TV I think.

Also, keep in mind that usually when a steering wheel of this type is installed and meant to be functional and used on a daily basis, that a "granny" gear box usually accompanies it. That way the turning radius of the wheel is reduced by around 1/3 compared to the actual turning of the car staying the same. (To turn the steering wheel 1/4 revolution in either direction fully turns the tires in the desired direction). It does take some getting used to!
