1:18 scale collection would be expensive, but a 1:64 or 1:43 would be more affordable.

I would imagine you can buy the parts direct from Ford/Shelby in the US and then convert the dash.

Re: Aoshima Season 4 K.I.T.T.
These are plastic kits that you need to paint & glue together. The other models the body and interior were the correct colour if you are no good at painting, but you will still need to do the smaller parts like dash, detailing etc.

Re: Black California Special Mustang
How limited are the Californian Specials? It would be a shame to convert a limited model, but one place to try is the Mustang Forums. Are you looking to import parts yourself or use a UK based company?

Myself and someone else has already done these when the new Knight Rider first came out, but as for mass producing, not a good idea as you then get into licensing laws rather than private one-off models.

Re: Ertl 1:18 KITT new release?
I don't think variation 4 was ever released was it? I remember discussions on here, but never saw a picture of anyone with the real thing. The chrome chase had 3 silver lamps without dots. What they did was use clear lamps with chrome backing (clear amber for outers) People complained that KITT neve...

That will be a real challenge to make, especially if the flaps open and close as some pictures have the EBS flaps out, and some they are closed.

The original ERTL Knight Rider models are just Firebirds, thats the nearest your gonna get. someone with modelling skills can make up the ground effects.

Re: Question about the 1:18 yellow Foglights Version
You can soak the yellow lamps in paint remover and then scrape the yellow off, but it tends to leave yellow stains which don't fully come out. Alternatively sand off the yellow paint, but this will leave sanding marks.
They are painted in clear orange from behind if I remember right.

It is a shame the detailing of the car couldn't be more like a Firebird, but I know Lego can be difficult to work with, but after seeing everything work like that, it is the best Lego model I have ever seen.

Are the t-top panels removable or fixed?
Yes, LED technology has moved a great deal, the old LEDs with 3mm wide, so there was only room for 3. Now you can get LEDs about 1mm wide, so there is now the space for more (you can make out the SMD LEDs in the picture I posted).

Is was the same for KITT, the later issue had errors too which the original model never had.
