You can pre-order the Ertl for $29.95 USD from lots of places on the Internet, including Showcasetoys.com and Toynk.com, which is where I ordered mine.

Lots of drool...
Yes, I drool everytime I open up my folder! I've been trying to get that Truck/KITT combo for the longest time with no luck. I have some contacts in Japan and even they can't find it. Maybe if the movie ever gets made, they'll re-issue it. The ComLink was an actual product, and if memory serves, the...

KITT slot car
I bought myself a mini Z shell, put it on a slot car chasis I got over the internet, bought a front and brake light system, and made myself a KITT slot car! I had to put in a voltage regulator for the scanner since a slot car track gives you over 12V of power, but it works great and looks cool going...

Ertl=Aoshima
I'm sure the Aoshima model doesn't have the grappling hook or ejector seat?? therefore, there's a difference. If you've seen the box art for the Aoshima, you'll see the grappling hook, and a closeup of one of the seats which leads me to believe they are pointing out the ejector seat (I can't read J...

Agreed
All valid points, and you can write to RC2 until your hands bleed and they just won't answer. I have a friend in Illinios who is going to attend the October Toy Convention there. He goes every year and says Ertl always has a booth. He's going to ask questions and take pictures and then report back t...

Looks Like Ertl to me
I hate to say it, but it definately looks like the same model as Ertl is offering for $30 less. I was hoping it would be different.
Too bad, but still something great to look forward to.
It's big enough that I might buy two and put a lighted dash and talking chip in. That might be fun!

Voice Chip
Radio Shack sells a nice digital recorder, actually just a really small circuit and a little speaker, that holds about 17 seconds of recording. I was able to fit the whole speech, "I am the Knight Industries Two-Thousand..." plus some scanner noise in the beginning, and used it in a model ...

Sorry
Sorry, I didn't see that thread. It's nice to know at least they say the same thing to all their customers.
It is a shame, though, because with the technology AOSHIMA has, they could actually make a LIGHTED dashboard in a 1/18th Scale KITT. How cool would that be!?

Model KITT differences
Funny you should mention the windshield tints. I have a couple of the original Golden oportunities KITTs from the 80s and hated the tinted windshields. I swapped with someone in England for his clear windshield. I am in the middle of making a replica with working scanner. fog lights and am also usin...

1/18th Ertl KITT = 1/18th Aoshima KITT???
I wrote to Showcase Toys to see if they will be carrying the Aoshima 1/18th Scale KITT. Here is their reply: The 1:18 scale Knight Rider K.I.T.T. model will be released by RC2 Ertl in late October or early November. It is available for pre-order at our website. The model being released by Aoshima wi...
