Yes, that's true. SPM does cost a bunch of money over & above the T/A they started with. But a jump-car T/A? They would use pop-rivets to make it. 2nd-unit prop cars look like total (poop) up close. They wouldn't have to spend the cash to make it look good. Look at what jumped over the semi at t...

Whenever I hear people shoot the breeze about doing car stunt footage, on any message board, or in real life, I hear the same misconception about doing it: Everybody thinks they would try to save the car. To a studio, the price of a car is petty-cash. What would it cost to set up an area to keep a c...

Aaahhh . . .

"Remember that indestructible, killer car you gave me to dismantle? Well, I just forgot to dismantle it."

Happens all the time.

Yeah. Film producers just won't sit around on a film idea to wait for a car to come out. They will probably use a slightly-modified new production car, which will undoubtedly be product-placement for some company. The only other option I see likely is that the producers would have a totally new KITT...

By the way: The "White Rock" jump was at a place called Indian Dunes. The whole episode had footage from there, although the town square was Universal's backlot (think: Back to the Future). The General Lee did a huge jump at Indian Dunes in the same spot in 1979. On almost every episode of...

I agree. We're nitpicking things again, but it would make sense to build a second car. In developing any car from scratch, the actual cost of building the first car is a fraction of the whole cost, compared to R&D. It also stands to reason that KITT would have numerous small improvements over KA...

Michael weighs like 180 pounds.
So KITT would have that much more momentum. So he'd just barely win, thanks to his fine fro-haired friend.

I found it funny seeing the red scanner on the front of the '57 Chevy.

I didn't find it funny when the '57 went off the end of the pier.

The show's producers originally intended KITT to be a James-Bond of a car, full of gadgets. But whatever they had envisioned, it ultimately turned into much more of a "buddy" show between KITT and Michael. At that point, more gadgets were just more stuff to have to write around in order to...

To me, the twin-turbo 350 sounds better than the V-6 idea. However, personally, I'd supercharge any motor before turbo-ing one. Yes, turbos can produce killer numbers, and often more power than a supercharger setup. But the characteristics of a turbo'd motor? Crap. Turbo-lag making it a turd below a...

The added handling and downforce of SPM actually DOES make sense. It's just overkill the way they did it. Too much stuff popped out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree, the turbo-boost and SPM were probably never paired because of the money....

I get the point of the question, about the technicians vs the grease monkeys. But an observation: In "Junkyard Dog" the whole car, other than the unibody shell, was gone. They had to almost re-create the car from scratch. But in "Juggernaught," it was the opposite. It was ONLY bo...

I'd like to see KITT keep a molecular-bonded shell of some sort. Maybe they took it overboard a few times in the old series. Although they forcibly destroyed him enough times, maybe KITT should have had a few more physical limits in things like falls and crashes. But the basic idea of the car being ...

Man, it would be just like them to cancel Knight Rider.

Then they'll replace it with some crappy series (usually about aliens with latex heads) that was originally cancelled after six weeks.

For the money & work the turbo'd V-6 will take, I'd just get a decent V-8. It's not unique or interesting, but everybody uses them for good reason. There are great smaller engines out there. I admire some of these hot V-6s that can kick my V-8's a**. But if it were my own car, I couldn't get ove...

That toy always annoyed me as a kid. Yeah, I had one, and liked it, but . . .
The scanner light didn't light up or anything, and the car & figure were outta proportion to each other.
That seemed to be the "main" toy set they were pushing, and it could've been better.

Any new Knight Rider film (that isn't set back in the 1980s) will have to wrestle with the issue of what car to use for KITT. I love the old KITT as much as anybody. However, a 1980s F-body no longer holds the same place in society that it did in 1982. It just would not be seen as hi-tech & futu...
