Re: KR 2008 Replica builds
Hi MTAK, I used to check this board more often, but decided to look today and saw your post. With no new iterations of Knight Rider these days, I'm not sure there's been much traffic on this site. There's a Facebook group for Knight Three Thousand replica builders -- https://www.facebook.com/groups/...

Re: KITT Demo mode
I know exactly what you're talking about. I used to have a cassette tape that I recorded from a custom auto show in the 1980s. Several years ago I digitized the tape to an audio file and got rid of the tape. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the digital file. I think I still have it on a hard driv...

Knight Rider in the new X-men Apocalypse movie
I watched X-men Apocalypse yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see Knight Rider featured in the film. The movie takes place around 1983 so it seems only appropriate. In the scene, Quicksilver is lounging around home. He's wearing a Six-million dollar man shirt, playing Mrs. Pacman, and when he...

Re: KITT electronics functionality
2knight, good info there. That's another concern I had is when you've got all these electronics in the car, what happens on a hot day? I get 90°-105° from maybe June to August, so it's something to think about. How much did you tint your windows? And what's the carpet insulation / radiant barrier i...

Re: KITT electronics functionality
I took my stock radio out and replaced it with the LCD touch screen. I have the sound out on my computer running to an amplifier that is connected to the car speakers. You could run the sound through your existing sound system if you keep it and if it has audio input, run the computer to an amplifie...

Re: KITT electronics functionality
I have a Knight 3000 replica with a computer built in. There are some companies online that sell computers specifically for cars that you can wire directly into a 12 volt system. I got mine through mp3car.com. I also got a touchscreen monitor through them so I don't have to worry about using a mouse...

Re: KITT's Shell look at this
Perhaps it could be sprayed on the inside of the body panels and reinforce them from the inside. It might be expensive, but there's a lot less square footage in a car than in a room or building, and one could always opt to protect just certain areas. It's interesting that it was originally a truck b...

That's pretty awesome. If the two sides could be separated, that would be perfect for a Knight 3000 replica. I like that there are different scan modes and speeds.

Re: DVD looping display of KITT voicebox display
If you are looking for a classic series voice display. There is an iPod app called iKITT that might do something similar to what you are looking for. It looks just like KITT's vox. It doesn't loop, but it could be used effectively in the same place. If you touch the screen you get a sound clip of KI...

Try e-speaking (http://e-speaking.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). The program has many commands already installed and you can program in voice commands to do specific things like open an mp3 file. I've used the program to open mp3's. For example, I say "KITT, Pla...

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Why KR08 was ahead of its time
I was thinking the same thing. The show really does remind me of Knight Rider 2008 as well . Whether KR2008 influenced it or whether there's just some formula out there that writers are using, I don't know. You have a couple of experienced people in charge (Coulson and Wen seem equivalent to Graiman...

Re: Lectric Enterprises has stolen me 1600$
It sounds like maybe you should consider outsourcing some of your work. As with many individual business ventures, it sounds like your own ability to crank out orders as an individual is bottlenecking the whole process. There comes a time when demand exceeds your ability to produce, that's when it's...

Re: KITT Replica with functional abilities
Several years ago I saw a fire extinguisher with a remote cable to activate in a boating store. Perhaps that could be attached to a solenoid to activate the fire extinguisher. Autoloc makes a smoke screen kit for cars. Oil slick would be an oil changer pump, a small oil reservoir, and some pipes or ...

Also look into software called Centrafuse for integrating GPS, Phone, Bluetooth, and music functions on a car computer.

Re: KITT Replica with functional abilities
When I was working on my KI2T replica, I always wanted to add gadgets and functionality and not just have the car look like KI2T. I spent more of my time and money trying to get the car looking the way I wanted (and later dealing with maintenance issues), but I did have a camera installed in the bac...

Re: Knight Rider 2008: Did It Suck?
I had mixed feelings about the 2008 series, but overall I liked it. I liked KI3T and Mike and thought they were a good mix. The other characters kind of grew on me. I liked how KI3T's personality was evolving kind of the way a real computer would. I feel some of the elements - notably transforming i...

Re: How many Knight 3000 are still around??
I'm still building Knight 3000 in Norfolk, Virginia. The work has been slow because I bought a house last year and have needed to divert finances to home repair and improvement. I've also had some big repair and maintenance expenses on the car the past year - had to replace the struts and shocks and...

How about bringing it back in real time - five or so years from where we left off? They could use this to explain any changes in set or casting.

Re: KITT - Virtual Assistant
I've looked before and haven't found a voicebox avatar for Ultrahal. It's always possible someone has created one since. It probably wouldn't be that hard to create, but I've never had the time to try to figure it out. They do have a plugin for a "Knight Rider brain." I've not tried it sin...

Re: KITT - Virtual Assistant
I use the Ultrahal AI in my KI3T. The speech recognition could be better (especially while driving as there is so much background noise), so I don't use him as much as I'd like. He learns better from typing on a keyboard, but that's not really practical or safe while going down the road. Ultrahal ca...

Re: 100 gallon fuel tank?
I was under the impression that KITT ran on hydrogen or something similar most of the time and that old-fashioned gasoline was something he used only when desperate. Perhaps that's the reason for two gas fills. We don't actually see whether there's a standard gas tank fill in the one behind the rear...

Re: California prepares for self-driving cars
The advantage I see isn't so much fully autonomous cars that drive themselves, but the potential safety features of something like an auto assist mode. Microprocessors have a much faster response time than the human brain. Safety features such as automatic braking to prevent collisions and steering ...

Re: Question about KITT vs KARR, and something else
I think the deflected laser beam only took out the laser circuitry so KARR couldn't fire again. KARR's structure was most likely weakened from sitting in salt water for two years. While KARR's outer shell was probably immune to salt water damage there were probably bolts and other structural pieces ...
